I've been a regular attendee at the 606 for about five years now and since the demise (in a sense) of Ronnie Scott's this is now the best jazz club in London. They seem to have a genuine respect for the musicians and treat them respectfully as artists. They run the club FOR the music; unlike Ronnie's, which now only seems to book pop artists that they think will pack out the venue. The food is good for the money, excellent drinks and the service couldn't be better. The only possible downside is the sound quality of the PA, which always seems tinny and overly loud to my ears, but that doesn't really matter because you're sat so close to the musicians anyway!

We've just had a great night (10/12/07) at the 606 Club. The venue is cosy, welcoming and low-key with all the tables close enough to the band for everyone to be in on the atmosphere. We'd not been before and were amazed by the quality of the food, served efficiently and with care. Less posh but in every way as great as a night spent at Ronnie Scott's.

Pros: I'm italian and I very appreciate the cusine, not only meat, also vegetables and dessert. Good quality and not expensive. And don't forget tasting St Peter 's beer, I picked up a bottle, it's nice.

Cons: The room is quite a cellar.

During my stint in the US Air Force England in the early 60s I remember smoky basement jazz clubs in Soho and the East end. Last year (2006). The 606 was about the nearest thing I could find last year when London. Good simple food and great jazz! Inexpensive night.

I was suprised to read the negative reviews of the 606 Club.

What do people expect when they go to an authentic Jazz club? Conran style with food by Gordon Ramsey and interior design by Anouska Hempel?

Sorry, I was going a bit 'Basil' there. I could see the herds of wondering wilder beast galloping down the Kings Road!

Essentially the 606 has no pretentions to style or gastromony. For those of us who know and love this caringly run club we recognise it's all about the music.

If you look at the listings with a view to choosing someone you like (and the names speak for themselves..viz Jamie Cullum Claire Teal, Gordon Heskell,Hamish Stuart to name but a few)get down there in time to get a seat in front of the stage and enjoy the thrill of true musicians making music for you, for real, right in front of your eyes, while you enjoy a more than decent meal served by someone who actually seems to care.

Personally, having used the club on a regular basis for over 4 years,I can honestly say I've rarely been disappointed in any way.

If you want sumptuous syle and a 'celebrity' dining experience (and a corporate size bill) hit a Conran restaurant or maybe Sketch.

If you want a unique and unforgetable musical evening that will leave you with vivid impressions for a long time after the event, hit the 606 and leave the wilderbeasts where the belong !

I would

606 Club is my favourite jazz club in London. In my opinion, it's the only jazz venue that has remained real and true to the jazz ethos. There is no pretentiousness, the ambience is great, the music excellent and the food really tasty.
