Had another wonderful meal at the Bluebird on Sat evening (16/02). Arrived and enjoyed a drink at the bar before being seating at our table by the window as requested when I booked. Service was good, a little slow but as we were enjoying ourselves that didnt matter. The wine recommendation was perfect and the food superb, I had scallops to start and a cassoulet of duck for main, my partner had pork rillet to start and steak for main-perfectly cooked! I have been coming to Bluebird for years and have had some very different experiences but I think they have got it right now.
If I had a complaint it would be that the wine list is pricy, but overall this is a fantastic experience in a restaurant with great atmosphere and friendly staff.

I had brunch on Sunday with friends. Service is quite dismal, since waiters forget things and food and drinks come after a long while. Overall, not a bad experience, but nothing to remember.

Dear reader,
I decided to try this place after having a lovely evening drinks with some friends at the bar 2 weeks ago. (great cocktails well executed by Matt the bar manager, a charmer from the States)
So, we decided for sunday lunch, and what a pleasant surprise, we were not disapointed at all - great atmosphere and lovely roast - what impressed us was the 'new bluebird' - very modern decor, sharp service and great food with reasonable pricing.
We sat on the middle banquette, the waitress serving us was charming and welcoming - very attentive throughout our lunch. The sommelier was efficient in her recommendation too. Food was great, starter with the scallops and oysters - then 2 roast - dessert was creme brulee and cheesecake.
Yes Bluebird is great and if you have not been there for a long time - do so as the place is now a fantastic venue and forget those malicious comments left constantly by people that only want some freebee. I certainly will go back and Bluebird has gained a new customer and supporter!
Well done!

After a disastrous birthday lunch in 2006 I waited more than a year to go back to Bluebird for a meal despite the fact that it is around the corner from where I live. On this occasion I was meeting a well heeled friend who appreciates good food and service and who happened to be in the area. I suggested that we meet at Bluebird. We ordered some drinks, including a 1955 Armagnac and 2 Sunday roast lunches. Half an hour later the hostess came by to find out if we wanted anything as according to her tickets we had only ordered an Armagnac. We let her know that we'd also ordered 2 roast lunches and also that the Armagnac had never arrived. She apologised and said she'd put the order through now. Another 10 minutes and my Armagnac finally arrived. We sat there for another half hour and finally she returned to tell us that they were out of the roast lunch and we'd have to order something else. WE deliberated briefly then ordered 2 more mains and several side dishes. Half an hour later I flagged down a bus boy to inquire what was happening with our food and he said he'd find out. 10 more minutes passed before the hostess returned to apologise again and promise that our food would be up in 4 minutes and that she was sorry and the'd make it up to us with dessert. I went outside to smoke a cigarette, which took about 10 minutes and then rang my friend who was at the table inside to find out if the food had come yet. It hadn't and I went inside to rejoin him as he paid for our drinks. As he did so, the restaurant attempted to slap him with an "optional" 12 1/2 percent service charge which he refused to pay, on principal. Overall we spent about 2 hours inside Bluebird without getting a bite to eat. We ended up getting pre-packaged sandwiches to go from a cafe nearby. Truly atrocious unforgiveable service and kitchen from a restaurant with a killer location and a great interior.

We had lunch in the cafe' downstairs and it was horrible. We could have had better food at Starbuck's!
The bruschettas were pieces of hard and stale bread drenched in sickly sweet balsamic vinegar and the brownies were too stodgy!
Tables outside were all dirty so I suppose no-one is in charge of cleaning them!
I definately will not be going back.

Went for my wedding anniversary after hearing so much about it. Wished I had read this site first. The decor is undeniably cool, but the food was really not up to the big fanfare this place seems to get.
We arrived quite early in the evening and the restaurant was only 1/3 full, but instead of seating everyone near to each other we were spread out (presumably so the waiters all got someone in their section for a tip). This meant that there was zero atmosphere though.
We had platter type starters with pate's - it all looked good, served on wooden chopping boards (kooky), but it was actually pretty bland. Main courses were again relatively tasteless and very fatty meats and sauces (not in a good way).
The wine list was good though, and I imagine were this place busy and you were in a group you could overlook the average food and have a good time.

I love 'nice' restaurants, and have frequented many. I had heard such good things about this place that my husband and I decided to have lunch there on our wedding anniversary. The location is wonderful with outdoor seating ideal for people watching however the food was only ok. The Bruschetta starter was lovely, however the prawn cocktail starter wasn't anything special. For mains we had the chicken and the lamb - neither of which are worth recommending. The service was overbearing, to the point where the waitress actually stood over my husband while he finished his starter, which seemed a bit pointless when we then waited a further 20mins for the mains. The bill came to a hefty £60 which I really dont think the meal was worth, I think its worth visiting this restaurant for the experience but doubt we will be going back

this place looks more beautiful than really it is...
we waited too muh before the wine reachedhe table and the waiter gave us a bottle of 26 pounds instead of the one of 18 pound
he didn t give us the ice bucketad,we had to ask him without a napink to dry the bottle...immagine all the water that came down the bottle and get you all wet...
he brought us one dish per time...they were all starters that we wanted to share between us at the same time and he didn t give us too empty plates to share the meal
...an horrible place where i won t never ever come back...

Was at the Bluebird on Friday 25th May 2007. We sat outside in the Cafe for a quick drink before making our way upstairs to the restaurant. Very pleasant on a warm evening. On hindsight, we would have gone straight to the restaurant had we known how amazing the bar area was. Took a seat on a very comfy (maybe too comfy as did not want to move) sofa where a waitress came over to take our drinks order. We were about the only ones there at the time (about 6pm) so we got a chance to take in the magnificent décor and layout of the place.
We soon went to our table next to the window looking over the Cafe and Kings Road. The waiter service was excellent and a complimentary glass of champagne went down very well. The food was excellent, tasted great and the presentation was exceptional (making my mouth water thinking of the food again). Once we had finished our fine, three-course meal, we relaxed with tea/coffee and were not rushed at all to free up the table.
By now the place was a lot busier, but not over-crowded, which made it very atmospheric. A DJ was in the bar area and although the music could be heard in the restaurant area it wasn't intrusive. This encouraged you to go back to the bar and relax on the comfy sofa again to let your food go down with a drink or two.
I would encourage people to try this restaurant; groups, couples, old and young will enjoy it - you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
PS. I would book in advance as it is very popular!

Last evening we were tempted by the smells of an outdoor grill in the courtyard of the Bluebird. What a diaster! We waited for a good 20 minutes before we could flag a waiter to take our drinks order, only to return in another 15 minutes to put them down on an unwiped table to go away again before taking our order. When the food arrived, a hamburger and grilled steak, the fries were not accompanying the order and we asked for ketchup for the hamburger. I eventually went to another table and took a bottle of ketchup before my hamburger went cold. My friend's steak was tough and flavourless and mostly eaten by the time the fries arrived. My hamburger at £14.00 was expensive and just okay. When we asked for the bill, which had a gratuity included, it was for a different table. All in all, for such a good concept in a terrific location, they fall apart on their horrible service.
