I had a team Xmas meal on Friday 5th Dec 08. Had a great time. Food was delicious and portion sizes really good. Staff courteous and accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed the aromatic crispy duck pancakes. Would definitely go again.

My mum and I went for a quick bite before the theatre on Friday. It was very good value for money. We had the Menu A which included crispy duck and we had a decent bottle of Pino Grigio for £44 (included service). There were a lot of Chinese people in the restaurant which was a good sign and the food was not slimy at all.

I love this place. Every time I come to London - I always come to Loon Tao. The food is excellent, very authentic, and very cheap. For anyone who reads Chinese - the speciality food (written in chinese) is brilliant if looking for authentic 'home' cooking.

I rate this Chinese higher than other in London. The manageress Jackie is brilliant - she knows all of her repeat guests, and normally predicts what I would order! I have taken my sisters from Canada here - and they rate it as good as chinese food in Toronto or Hong Kong (where we are originally from).

About 12 friends and I made a reservation for the Loon Tao on Saturday night 22/11/2008. Food was great especially my starter Crispy duck, the atmosphere was nice to begin with however we couldn't help but feel very rushed to get out of there, half of us ordered starters and the unfriendly waitress was keen to get the main meal orders in on the other side of the table at the same time leaving us all eating starters and mains together and of course when we got our mains after the starters we felt we had to shove it down so as not to keep the others waiting too long. I have to say this made things very uncomfortable and basically ruined the evening as far as I'm concerned, and therefore the atmosphere changed, it felt like we were only there for an hour. I won't be returning in a hurry.

My girlfriend and I love this restaurant. As someone who is half Chinese – I know what I am talking about when I rate this as good as the best Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, Toronto and Melbourne (which are generally known as having the best Chinese chefs and products). We tend to go weekly and have also taken all of our friends who rate it as good as we do. My mum (full Chinese) puts a visit as her top priority when she comes to London. Biggest suggestions: Ho Fun Noodles with Beef and Black Bean Sauce; Deep fried Squid with Chilli and Salt; Roast Duck; Roast Char Sui. Amazing food, ridiculously cheap prices for London, and great service. 10 out of 10 from us.

Possibly one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to. The food is amazing especially the barbecued roast pork! The service is fantastic, they provide a very close, warm feeling as you enter the door and welcome you with a big smile on their face. The restaurants' atmosphere may not be the best but it is certainly suitable. I think that Loon Tao restaurant is definitely worth it's money because it is everything that customer is looking for when they go to a restaurant, not only do they meet customer needs but they also provide customers with half an orange in slices after the meal...FREE! What more can you possibly ask for?

I come here everyweek and the standards are always good without fail. I would recommend it to anyone.

Possibly the worst restaurant, and not just Chinese, I've ever been to. With the exception of the service, which was decent, all the rest verged on the category of the irreversibly horrible: from the worn-out chairs and carpet, to the kitschiest decor, to the medicine-like wine, to the most tasteless spring rolls ever, to the most glutenous and irridesent sauces (both on the fatty duck and the struggling prawns). I've left the desert last. It's not that it looked like dried-out turds (when it was supposed to be looking like banana fritters), but it also tasted horribly. The batter was thick and dry, whilst the banana inside was practically uncooked and very hard. There was something good, though, and it came free: half an orange in slices, perhaps even more than half. Oh, and the prawn crackers were good, though, of course, you can buy them at Sainsbury's.

To top it off, the place is expensive (and, in fact, very expensive for what it is). DO NOT GO (unless you have suicidal tendencies).

Went last night to the Loon Tao, and I must commend on the roast duck which was the best I ever had, the other dishes were good too, but the roast duck was no doubt beyond compare, taste fresh from the kiln and very juicy, just delicous.

Service was good too, they were very friendly even though it was quite busy considered that it was a Thursday evening.

This might be the best restaurant on Gerrard Street, but also stands out the least. The char siu roast pork is the best in Chinatown, and is best had on plain rice, perhaps combined with roast duck or soya chicken. All the dishes are prepared with more care than in other restaurants, and the food just tastes cleaner. Haven't tried the more complicated dishes on the menu yet but the char siu roast pork is a must-try.

Staff are generally efficient and friendly too.

I visited Loon Tao quite often with my my friends, maily during the daytime.

They have good food and fair prices and ...terrible service on a busy night. On saturday me and friend had a meal. After main we wanted to order more drinks and mayby dessert, instead had been brought a bill with words "thank you and good bye". After paying the bill, we were drinking our booze slowly, because our glasses were full. But, waiter kept looking at us with "leave now "look on his face and after 5 minutes he came to us saying "we need the table, leave!" and started taking cloth off the table to force us to leave.

I do understand the rush on Saturday night, but the policy of successful restaurant should be always the quality, not the quantity. Happy customer will always bring friends with them at the next visit... but not me, i am afraid.
