newton's is a great restaurant. I've been going for about 15 years, and tho it was less good for a couple of years, for the past 5 or more we have had consistently lovely food, not expensive, and an unusually cosy and pretty setting. Friendly waiters, cheerful atmosphere. Hard to fault.

Lovely ambience and great food at this very cosy restaurant on a cold evening.

Would highly recommend this place, the service fast and effective, freshly prepared modern food, homemade desserts, nice wine list and a lounge area with comfy sofas where you can order bar snacks or just drinks.

Overall a great place to meet.

Had a great meal here on Saturday night.

The food was truly excellent, great flavours, beautifully presented and was served with skill and proffessionalism

We were seated next to a gorgeous roaring fire and enjoyed a lovely bottle of Sauvignon blanc.

I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

Can't wait to go back.

Boring, bland food served in a confused environment to say the least. The roast dinner reminded me of school lunches and had to be sent back as the meat had been totally obliterated. Chicken livers were also overcooked though I enjoyed my Asian style crab cake starter. The wine list was interesting and well priced and the service was friendly if a little haphazard at times.

Sadly we used to enjoy this bistro a few summers ago but the food really let the whole experience down.

I read the last review and just had to offer another opinion as none of the other reviews are very recent Granted you can have a bad experience at the best of restaurants. But as Abbeville Road dwellers we are consistently impressed with Newton's. The food is always fabulous - and as a vegetarian if I don't like the veggie option on the menu they always make me something from scratch. The service is friendly and the people there are real personalities not waiters who couldn't care less. The wine list is great and this is one of the few places where the house white is my favourite. The new sofas and tapas bar menu are a really welcome addition. And overall it is amazing value for money compared with the Abbeville pub down the road which is always packed and whose food is nowhere near this quality. All in all I'm very glad to have this place just down the road.

awful!! I went there a few days ago and had a truly dreadful experience. The place was almost empty and still we struggled to get any service. There was absolutely no atmosphere- party because the place was empty and party because they had two huge flat screen TVs blaring away. The food was basic and expensive, i couldn't even cut the steak because it was so tough even with a steak knife! Its such a shame as this could be an excellent place but for the moment id give it a wide birth and go somewhere-anywhere else!
