Newtons

We live near Abbeville Road and had often looked at Newtons and was concerned they always seemed emptyish.... alas, to be fair, most restaurants on Abbeville Road do.
I'm a fussy eater and to see a select menu offering at least 5 mains I'd go for I was well happy. It was the night of the Rugby World Cup and without reservation was offered the room to watch the Rugby or not, we took the not and the service was congenial, timed well and never invasive.
The food was nice, my partner seemed to get a better fare but still tasty and the bill for three courses plus wine at £80 seemed very reasonable including the service charge.
The menu printed on the day of eating was pleasing as it gave me the impression that it changes regularly although I will say the dessert portions were small. The wine list was creative and caused debate.
We'll go again, to yet another lovely piece of Abbeville Road.

Love this place! been many times and never had a bad meal. The menu changes regularly and usually I would be happy eating any of the dishes.
Staff are friendly, relaxed and offer excellent service.

I’m afraid I strongly disagree with Jake below who commented that the food isn’t amazing. Newtons continues to be one of my favourite restaurants, not just in the area but in London. The menu changes daily and the Thai Green Curry is the best I’ve had. The homemade truffles and fudge are a welcome alternative to coffee and mints and literally melt in the mouth. Along with the wonderful food and wine, the atmosphere in there is always fun. The managers, James and Phil, are welcoming, congenial, erudite hosts and never fail to lift your mood. A must for anyone who enjoys great food, great service and a great night out.

This restaurant always seems to get it right. It's not amazing food but there's a combination of good atmosphere, friendly staff and good value that seem to fall into place and put it ahead of some of the other restaurants in the area.
I hope they keep on doing what they do and would recomend this for anyone needing a safe bet.

A friend of mine rang up Newtons in a last minute panic when our original choice of restaurant, The Grove in Balham, ran out of food on Sunday afternoon and three other friends were on their way to meet us. Newtons were happy accept our rushed reservation. Apart from a very gentle reminder that the kitchen was about to close, we were not hurried in any way and the food was still up to the usual high standard.

Quite simply the best restaurant in Abbeville Raod, if not Clapham South, in fact I can't of another in Clapham to better it! The food is exellent and never let's you down, the service is freindly, professional and efficient, James the manager is particularly worth a mention and is a great host. Their surroundings are simple and elegant and it offers quite unbelieveable value for money for - a must!
