Taste of Raj

Surprised by the negative reviews. Go to this restaurant fairly frequently to eat in or get take awat and always find the service friendly and attentive and food excellent. Good quality meat used which makes such a difference, and it is reasonably priced. The restaurant is quite small but perfectly pleasant. Great local curry house!

Yes I agree with Simon Simmons, the dining experience there certainly wasn't anything to shout about. Bland food served by less than enthusiastic staff. I won't be going back.

Having eaten in Blackheath and its restaurants for 20 years one night without any particular plans or a reservation elsewhere, we decided to try the Taste of Raj for once.

We had never been there before as many people we know had warned us off it,but at the same time many people we know had also rated it.We had been put off before because it looks so small but it was just the 2 of us so we decided to give it a go.Food was Ok ,nothing special at all but not awful.The restaurant is so cramped even smaller inside than it looks outside, it looks like it was built in a corridor.In fact there is more room on a British Rail buffet carriage. Service was limited,but then it must be hard serving in such a cramped work space .

We arrived at closing time last night, after a concert at the O2 arena, but they still welcomed us in.

The service was good, the atmosphere ok, but the food was outstanding!

We live in Great Yarmouth, it's a shame we are not closer . .

Definitely on our list for next time in the area.

Yes, the tables are close together but it is worth it as the food is amazing!

waiters are helpful and the service is good!

going there tonight and go at least once a month- have tried other indians and cant find any that beat this place!!

We too have been perplexed by the generous reviews of this restaurant and agree that they have probably been entered by those affiliated to the establishment. Indeed the tables are far too close together and as we explained in our initial review, the service was awful. It's clear that their main concern is getting as many people in at once and getting them out again as soon as possible to make way for other customers. They are fortunate that in such a densely populated area they don't have to rely on repeat custom. I wonder if anyone else would be prepared to offer a frank and honest review of this distinctly average eatery. Until then, we fly the warning flag alone.

An ok curry house, it's amazing to read some of these reviews as anyone that says it has great views must be affiliated to the restaurant, the window faces a bus stop and steep grass bank. The service was fine, waitors friendly enough and food was distinctly average but reasonable in cost. This would be fine for a take away but the reason why we will never go again is because the tables were 8 inches apart from each other - so no privacy whatsoever. The couple next to us and ourselves may have shared a table.

Extremeley disappointed after deciding to go there upon friends recommendations. Didnt acknowledge our booking, waiters extremely unhelpful when approached, asked to wait in the aisle until a table became vacant - decided to leave and go to our local curry house sorry we ever over looked it.

Lovely environment, great food, good menu and the staff are fantastic. I have been going once a month (with husband) for about 6 years. We take our three children and they love to eat there also.
