Angus Steak Houses

We ate at the Angus Steak House last night, and found it lacking in most areas. A catalogue of errors started off with the waiter not writing the order down but memorising it. We started off ordering a sharing platter, which happened to come out after our mains and not as a starter. With two children in our party, the wait for food seemed rather long. One of the main courses was a 8oz fillet, ordered well done and butterflied so the outside wouldn't be black. It come looking cremated and we were told the chefs didn't butterfly steaks. This might have been nice to know when ordering! One of the kids meals was a cheese burger which came out without cheese. The fish and chips came out without the mushy peas. We were served a red wine sauce that tasted like a packet mix and was fairly inedible. To top this off, a drink was spilt down the back of one of our party by the waitress. We were offered two free drinks by way of an apology, which was a start. Plates were then taken off the table whilst the rest of us were eating, without asking why half a fillet steak had been left. When we went to pay, the waiter didn't look pleased that we weren't leaving a tip and walked off leaving us to enter all the details onto the card machine. The only good thing I can say is that my 12oz fillet steak was a great piece of meat and cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered. Were most of these mistakes down to not commiting the order to paper? I'll never go in again to find out!

I have been to Angus Steak Houses several times, most recently on Thursday 5th July 2007. I cannot understand why people leave negative comments. I have always enjoyed the steaks there. I always have a 12 ounce fillet cooked medium rare. OK, at £19.95 plus extra for chips etc, it is not the cheapest, but the quality is spot on. On my last visit last week, I asked to see the manager to thank him for my meal, and also for the friendly service from our waiter. I commented on all the negative feedback on the web, and how I felt they were not a true reflection on his restaurant. Don't forget, the staff don't own the restaurant, they are just trying to earn an honest buck. If you really want to be ripped off big style, go to some of these so called "celebrity" owned restaurants. I went to one 10 years ago in a small fishing village in Cornwall. That guy must now be a billionaire! £25 for a starter, and £50 ish for main courses? Have you seen how these people live? Mansions, helicopters, Aston Martins and Ferraris!!! I wouldn't eat at one of their restaurants out of principal. Anyway, enough anger! Try the Angus Steak Houses when you're in London. Yes they are a little cramped. Yes the decor is a little late 70s. Yes the staff are non English. Yes you might wait 20 or so minutes for your mains. Yes it is "London prices", but the food is great. No I am not connected with their business. I'm just a very satisfied customer.

PLEASE PLEASE don't go here.
If you must - PLEASE don't order the Prawn Cocktail, PLEASE don't order the scampi and PLEASE don't order the banoffi pie.
But you must insist on having Anna as your waitress - she was great!

WE DID THIS SO YOU WONT HAVE TO!!
One Friday night pub talk "Have you ever eaten at an Angus Steak House?" Everyone (not surprisingly) hadn't and curiosity got the better of us and we set off (a few days later) to try it out. Firstly we we're surprised at how busy it was for a Thursday night and not all customers looked like tourists. We were lead to our booth and sticky table and given a breadbasket containing spongy rolls like you get with airplane meals, be warned these are charged at £1 each!!! Our party of five didn't quite fit in our booth so the 5th person was given a chair in the window next to the small air-conditioning unit. We picked two starters to share a Prawn Cocktail and Potato skins. The prawn cocktail I didn't eat was left abandoned after a few cautious bites. The prawns were completely covered (disguised) in a pinky orange sauce and appeared to be too small to be prawns. A very unappetizing appetizer costing £4.90!The potato skins and that’s the 4 of them, were cold and had the texture of a cardboard. For the main we ordered a varied selection; one vegetarian meal, 2 steaks, shish kebab with gummy rice and scampi with deep-fried mashed potato discs. . My rump steak was cold, white in colour, except the black grill lines, with very little flavour and came without any sides so I ordered a bowl of fries which were cold and under cooked for the cost of £2. The shish kebab was another disguised meal covered in a strange brown tangy sauce on a bed of strange gummy textured rice. The scampi came with 2 deep fried potato disks and it looked worse than any fast food meal that was reheated over and over again for days on end. The nut roast was a safe option and having not eaten one before I cant compare but the size of it was definitely NOT worth the £12 price.
The service was entertaining thanks to Anna a very happy and smiling Russian girl who took us pleasantly through our meal for the evening and was willing to take photos of our party and answer all our questions. We admired the mirrored ceiling and the hundreds of pictures on the red walls and I won’t even go into the description of the toilets, lets just say I think I know how the trick with mice and the glue works.
The worst thing about the experience was the cost £155 for a meal for five. It was a true experience and we did this so YOU WON'T HAVE TO!!

Angus Steak House just off Oxford Street
Following a long morning session of shopping my friend and I decided to have a well deserved lunch. Being shown to our table by a grumpy looking (and sounding actually!) woman our menus were thrown on the table for us to read. Squeezing past the stupidly close together tables (I am not an obese person) we began to read the menu. The atmosphere could have only been described as somber! Normally you at least get some tables talking but there was nothing, no muzack, no chattering diners and no shouts from the kitchen) After looking at the uninspiring menu for a few minutes we prompt up'd sticks and left!
Not Recommended!

Had the misfortune to go to this one !!
I took two visiting friends from USA who wanted to try out an Angus Steak House.
On entering we were greeted and shown to a table - so it started well!! We orderd 1 glass of wine and two glasses of bottled still water, while we were deciding what to have. The waiter came to take our order we asked for two main meals and I as I don't eat large meals and not hungrey asked to have just a starter as my main meal. To my horror I was told that I could not have my glass of wine unless I actually ordered a meal on the main course menu and then proceeded to tell me that a waiter had been sacked the week before for doing so. What rubbish, who decides what portion of food is a main meal and as far as I am aware (I'm in the trade) so long am ordering cooked food to eat on the premises, alcohol can be served. I was embarressed to have to challenge such a ridiculous remark and made to order a meal I neither wanted or enjoyed. The manager came to collect our plates when we had finished and dropped them back onto the tabel and onto my friends who managed to catch them.
In short, I will not be returning or recomending as I have no wish to repeat this experience. There are plenty of excellent eating places in the that area and better value for money.

We went to Cranbourne St site last week.Judging by previous reviews this place must have improved out of all recognition. The place was heaving on a friday night but we were treated courteously and promptly. Two adults and two kids had a very satisfying meal with the steaks cooked just as we had asked.Service despite the crowds was prompt without being hurried.
Some of the reviews I have read bear no resemblance to our meal and we could be classed as fussy. This place didnt claim to be some Michelin Starred restaurant it is what it is - A Steakhouse and clearly one that has made great strides. Would I go there again? If I wanted a Family meal in central London and I was happy to eat Steak then the answer is a resoundding Yes

Went there last Saturday, it is definitely a huge rip-off. My boyfriend had a steak that was totally unimpressive with the smallest portion of chips ever that had to be ordered as a side dish. I ordered a chicken butterfly salad which was about 10 salad leaves with some pieces of rather burnt chicken on top. There was absolutely no dressing, I am not even sure there was any salt or pepper on the bare leaves. Nevertheless, the salad was more than £10. The service was okay, although we were asked if we wanted more bread, which we did and then we had to order it again anyway.
I would definitely not recommend it and will never go there again.

Me and My boyfriend were some times in this restaurante in the last years.
The food and drink were enough good, but the most important thing: the waiters were very nice, polite and quick. The bill was correct.
This restaurant our favore place in London.
We are going to go back in July this year.

We ordered one well done sirloin steak and one medium sirloin steak, the well done steak was pink in the centre and the medium steak was red and bloody in the centre. We didn't say anything to the waiters as the restaurant was very busy and we would have to wait yet another half hour for our meal. The portion of chips was very small and must have worked out at 10p per chip and the portion of onion rings worked out at 60p each, I know there is a north south divide and the cost of living is far greater in the south but to charge this for these items was daylight robbery, I would like to think the British people would not rip off the paying public whether they or visiters to our country or British citizens. The final insult was when we received the bill and were charged an extra 90p each for the bread buns and then while paying the bill we had the opportunity to add a tip WELL MY TIP IS LOOK AT HOW YOUR RESTAURANTS ARE RUN SACK THE CHEFS IF NEED BE AND GET SOMEONE WHO CAN COOK, DO NOT CHARGE FOR CHIPS AND BULK UP THE PORTIONS FOR LEES COST. NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I FELT THAT I HAD BEEN ROBBED OF 40 QUID OF OUR HARD EARNED CASH. We ate at the Bear and Staff a few doors down from you and enjoyed a lovely meal at half the cost
Yours
a very disgruntled diner
