The steaks in the steak house are fantastic.

The addition of Chips. side salad are not.

£3.50 for a little bowl of side salad is a rip off.

You have no choice but pay for any accompaniments you want with the steak.

This is a con!!!!

It will stop me eating here!!!!

My husband and I have incidentally come accross this site and, surprisingly enough, observed numerous negative feedbacks on Angus Steak House.

Surely it goes without saying that everyone is privileged to have its own attitude, however, our family visits nothing else but Angus Steak House each time we come to London for, in our opinion, ASH meets the highest quality standards (i.e. meals are fresh and delicious, waitors/waitresses are exteremely polite), which makes the whole atmosphere comfortable and enjoyable (special thanks to the one at Haymarket).

Surely, the prices are somewhat higer than average ones but as an experienced banking manager let me assure you that good guality always stands for high price or so it meant to be. Otherwise, as a result you get a poor-quality meals distinguished either at a glance or a while after, which is even worse.

Quite a number of visitors feel unsafisfied with the absence of french fries and other sides like that on the plate instead of being grateful for that because willingly or not ASH is evidently trying to promote the healthier way of eating suggesting 'just a steak' with lettuce without fast-food attributes (not many restaurants do that nowadays). So, probably it's high time we start thinking of what we are actually eating and preferring to eat and probably we should think less of McDonalds menu while visiting good-quality restaurant, otherwise what is the point of overpaying for standard fries?!:-)

Lastly, let me remind that our attitudes and impresions largely depend on our mood and that's where we should probably go to self-alnalysis rather than planting over undeserved comments on a really good restaurant.

p.s. no, we are neither owners nor employees of Angus Steak House.

I echo the sentiments of previous reviewers regarding how awful this place is. My wife and I decided we'd finally try Angus Steaks as we have been talking about it for some time. I so wish we had bothered to read some reviews. Looking at the menu I assumed that like all other decent, honest restaurants the food comes with vegetables and chips. I was surprised to fin out that at already high prices we had to order side dishes too. On top of this, the steaks were not the best I have had, and I have had steaks at many different places. The service was rushed and at the end we felt we were being thrown out to make way for other unsuspecting victims. I always leave a tip but on this occasion I was so disgusted that I didn't feel like I wanted to be mugged twice in the same night. Now I know that the waitresses have nothing to do with my complaint but I couldn't help feeling cheated at the time.

Overall I'd say please don't go there if you want value for money. It's a rip off.

Yesterday, 26th Jan 2008, our family of 5 adults went to the Angus in Picadilly for a liesurely lunch befor a show. Th service was fine but with one key question we changed our order. We asked the origin of the beef steak. South America, Argentina or Brazil, was the answer!

Now we have to question the place that pictures the animal on its menu and in many photos on the walls just why it cannot but British for what purports to be a very British eating house. Our order came and, as expected, it was proficiently served at a cost we accepted from the menu. Two battered Cod were overcooked, two grilled Salmon were cooked well but tasted of the steak gril. I was the odd fellow who held fast to the Argentine fillet! It was redder than I ordered but had a reasonable texture and taste.

Overall our main grumble was the misleading "come-on" that the beef was British and we still wonder whether this contravened trading standards. If anyone reads this, customer or manager, please learn to check your order before you place it. As others have said, it is too late to say anything when the charming service person asks about satisfaction.

This was the worst meal I have eaten. The prices were extortionate and I agree with the previous comment it was a rip off!

If you want good value for money do not eat here!

It was my husband's birthday last Saturday and as I had booked tickets for a show that evening, decided it might be nice to eat somewhere in Leicester Square beforehand. It was a choice between an italian restaurant and the Angus Steak House - we definately made the wrong decision that night!

Having never eaten in an Angus Steak House before, I looked at the prices before going into the restaurant, thought they were a bit pricy but as it was a special occasion, thought blow it, lets go the whole hog and have a really enjoyable evening.

Everything was ok until we ordered our food - we ordered two sirloin steaks and were asked if we wanted anything with them. Given each steak cost £16.50 I asked what came with the meal and was advised that the steak was served with half a tomato and some lettuce. As I wanted a steak meal and not just a steak, my husband and I then had to order 'side dishes' of chips, peas, mushrooms, onion rings, etc at a cost of £1 - 2 per side dish, pushing the price of each meal to around £22 - 23.00. For this price I was expecting a pretty good meal to be presented to me.

The food arrived and looked good - the waiter came over and asked if everything was ok within two minutes of us starting to eat, my husband replied 'everything is ok at the moment'. However, after five minutes or so it became quite obvious the steaks were very grisly, not what I would expect when paying £16.50 for just a steak. Having finished our meals (leaving approximately a third of the steaks because we couldn't eat the grisle) the plates were collected and we were asked if everything had been ok. We replied no, we were not happy with the quality of the steaks given to us. Between the three waiters/waitresses who came to try and resolve the issue, we were told that by ordering sirloin and not fillet steaks we should have expected them to be grisly (!!!) and that because we had said everything was fine at the start of the meal, nothing more could be done. We were offered absolutely nothing in compensation, not even a drink.

I would definately not recommend going to eat at this restaurant, it spoilt the beginning of what should have been a lovely evening. Having worked as a Commercial Officer for the MoD for the last five years, I can definately say, hand on heart, that the food was not value for money, if you want to eat a better steak meal (which includes chips, peas, mushrooms, etc) I would recommend the chain Brewers Fayre, each meal would cost you around £13 - 14.00 and not the rip off £22 - 23.00 we were charged.

This was my first, and last, visit to the Angus Steak House chain of restaurants.

I should have read the reviews - they say you learn the hard way!. We only really went as the children were hungry and there was a 30 minute wait for the Mexican opposite. We were ushered to a table for 5 - the 5th place being a baby high Chair. Neither my Mother-in-Law nor my 7 yearold could fit in so we asked to be moved to a proper table seating 5. After being provided with menus, I had to ask for our order to be taken 10 minutes after arrival. The basket of bread and butter then arrived (with no knives to spread the latter). Thank god for my mother saying that fingers were made before Knives - I did ask - twice. The half a roast Chicken was the size of a pigeon at £12.95, the steaks were not to order and yes medium etc is subjective but the Chef obviously only show the bull the frying pan. We comp[lained tot eh manager who assured us she would knock somehtig off the bill. The bill arrived, nothing knocked off and where was the manageress - finished her shift. Complained to the new Manager explained it all again and the fact that the kitchen staff were seen to use the gents in their nice new plastic gloves (fortunately seen after we had eaten). Our advice - dont go there better service and quality down the road at McDonalds. Only plus side, the child's meal was real chicken pieces. Date of visit Mon 27th Aug 2007.

We ate at the Angus Steak House last night, and found it lacking in most areas. A catalogue of errors started off with the waiter not writing the order down but memorising it. We started off ordering a sharing platter, which happened to come out after our mains and not as a starter. With two children in our party, the wait for food seemed rather long. One of the main courses was a 8oz fillet, ordered well done and butterflied so the outside wouldn't be black. It come looking cremated and we were told the chefs didn't butterfly steaks. This might have been nice to know when ordering! One of the kids meals was a cheese burger which came out without cheese. The fish and chips came out without the mushy peas. We were served a red wine sauce that tasted like a packet mix and was fairly inedible. To top this off, a drink was spilt down the back of one of our party by the waitress. We were offered two free drinks by way of an apology, which was a start. Plates were then taken off the table whilst the rest of us were eating, without asking why half a fillet steak had been left. When we went to pay, the waiter didn't look pleased that we weren't leaving a tip and walked off leaving us to enter all the details onto the card machine. The only good thing I can say is that my 12oz fillet steak was a great piece of meat and cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered. Were most of these mistakes down to not commiting the order to paper? I'll never go in again to find out!

I have been to Angus Steak Houses several times, most recently on Thursday 5th July 2007. I cannot understand why people leave negative comments. I have always enjoyed the steaks there. I always have a 12 ounce fillet cooked medium rare. OK, at £19.95 plus extra for chips etc, it is not the cheapest, but the quality is spot on. On my last visit last week, I asked to see the manager to thank him for my meal, and also for the friendly service from our waiter. I commented on all the negative feedback on the web, and how I felt they were not a true reflection on his restaurant. Don't forget, the staff don't own the restaurant, they are just trying to earn an honest buck. If you really want to be ripped off big style, go to some of these so called "celebrity" owned restaurants. I went to one 10 years ago in a small fishing village in Cornwall. That guy must now be a billionaire! £25 for a starter, and £50 ish for main courses? Have you seen how these people live? Mansions, helicopters, Aston Martins and Ferraris!!! I wouldn't eat at one of their restaurants out of principal. Anyway, enough anger! Try the Angus Steak Houses when you're in London. Yes they are a little cramped. Yes the decor is a little late 70s. Yes the staff are non English. Yes you might wait 20 or so minutes for your mains. Yes it is "London prices", but the food is great. No I am not connected with their business. I'm just a very satisfied customer.
