I visited this retaurant on 08 March 2008 with my wife, son and his partner, on my on's recommendation.
We had the Vegetarian comb for 4 people. The food was excellent.
We also had the "coffee sensation". Roasted coffee beans brought to the table to experience the aroma. The beans were then removed, ground and return in a fascinating coffee pot, together with an incense burner and pop corn.
A wonderful experience.
This restaurant is one that all lovers of good food, wonderful atmosphere should visit.
The staff were very friendly and the restairant environs simple but very welcoming.
Excellent value for money.
A fantastic first experience for myself and my wife.
A return visit will definitely be on the cards

Adulis serves Eritrean food which is very similar to Ethiopian food. Dishes are served on injera, a thick slightly sour tasting pancake. My boyfriend and I had a dish each; lamb with rosemary which we read about on this site and a medley of vegetarian dishes. Accompanying this we had a beer each. The total came to around £25 including tip.
The food was really excelent. The rosemary infused lamb was succulent and the injera soaked up all the flavours of the food. The vegetarian dish was a mixture of available dishes on the menu and included some really great flavours: a spicy lentil mix, a warm curried chick pea dish and others i wasn't entirely sure what they were but tasted pretty good!
I also tried the Eritrean beer which, although a little sweeter than lager you find here in general, was really quite nice.
It being mid-week neither of us felt confident about participating in the coffee ceremony. It is something I'd like to try since it looked very impressive at the table next to us.

We booked a table for two early on a Friday evening. Although it was quiet when we arrived, the staff were really disinterested and it took over 10 minutes to get any drinks or order our food. After waiting a long time, we were given the wrong order, which we had to send back, and then wait again until our food finally arrived. The food itself was fine, but if the waiting staff had been bothered to come near our table again they could have doubled our bill by serving us some drinks. Underwhelmed by the service we refused to pay the 12.5% service charge they added to the bill.

Aaaah...I have been going to this restaurant for at least 3 years. The food is just absolutely amazing. I eat mostly vegetarian food and Adulis does not disapoint - TimTimo & Shiro being my favourites. The service is very irregular. One member of staff is not too familiar with the menu and gave answers for things she did not know when she should have just asked the kitchen first. Another is just a little stand-offish. But the rest of the staff are lovely, friendly and professional. IT's all worth while for the amazing food. Advice: stick to the veggie stuff - delicious. The atmosphere is brilliant. Value for money: Each dish is about £6.00 - well worth it!!

I'm a big fan of Ethiopian cuisine and Eritrean food is very similar (perhpas even the same!) so I thought I would give Adulis a try. I'm so glad I did. This restaurant is a gem. It has a lively, upbeat, modern atmosphere, particularly on a Saturday evening. The food was really fresh and nicely spiced. I had a fantastic fish dish which had been marinated in hot pepper sauce and then fried in olive oil with peppers and onions. It was delicious. My husband ordered a lamb dish with rosemary and a rich brown sauce... It was very spicy but phenomenol in flavour. Like Ethiopian food, Eritrean dishes are eaten with enjera, a big yeasty lemony pancake and they are shared. Adulis is very reasonably priced. Highy recommended to the adventurous 'foodie' looking for a unique and tasty experience... Food service on a Saturday is slow because everyone wants to be there so come prepared to wait... It's worth it.

This is THE best Eritrean restaurant in London.
I think it's been mentioned before, but the classification should be changed - it's NOT Caribbean. The food is very, very different.
I can't recommend it more highly!

Lovely. Atmosphere is lovely, quite chilled in the week, buzzing in the weekend. Service as in most eritrean restaurants is really friendly although promptness depends on how busy they are. The food is in very generous portions and the waiting staff are always willing to advise. We went with someone who didn't like anything hot (spicy), and the waiter recommended something which was too hot for her, and then replaced it free of charge (although) the rest of us had eaten most of it. We will keep on coming back (but probably only with friends who can handle some heat).

What a fantastic atmosphere. We were not rushed - what a relief. The music was not so loud that we had to shout. The feeling of being transported to a different time was great. If you eat here you should not use a fork, much more fun. THe service was relaxed and we were made to feel comfortable. Try the coffee bean experience!! If you are precious stick to Mayfair. If you are into good food and the authentic experience of Africa - book now!

Adulis is little Eritrea - from the food to the service (always brilliant) is typically Eritrean. Definitely the most genuine Eritrean experience. Good value for money - a Twenty-pound note goes a long way here. As a regular punter, I would recommend Adulis to anyone - adventurer and regular restaurant goer alike.
