A horrifying experience, appalling service, waiters passed derogatory remarks when asked for anything......EXTREMELY RUDE!!! they were eating behind the bar.Never had such an experience in London.

Advise everyone never to visit this HORRIBLE restaurant !!!!!!!

The food tasted good, but I have an issue with some of the prices.

We were charged £2.10 for 3 poppadoms and an additional £3 for the chutneys to go with them.!

I work just around the corner from this restaurant, and so have visited quite a few times.

The staff are wonderful, and the food tastes great!

Love this place!

I visited Sitar on the 5th of august 2010.

Although we were the only two there, I enjoyed it very much.

The food was exquisite and both of us had a great lunch.

The staff was quiet and invisible, but polite, good and correct.

I would advise anyone to go here to enjoy a good Indian meal.

The food is very average, the wine is vastly over priced. Yet, this is nothing compared to the service. The staff are incredibly rude and unwelcoming.

I'm sorry but I have to say this is possibly one of the worst Indian resteraunts I've been to im my entire life. I've lived in Lonodn for over 15 years and not before have I had such bland, unimaginable, tastless supposedly 'Indian' food. Dont get me wrong, from the frontage it looks like any other run of the mill Indian establishment - Tinted dark windows - check, awful plinky plonky music when u walk in - check, beige or cigarette white walls - check...

The first issue is with the service, its pleasant enough (im assuming the manager must have read this site and its reviews and had a word with some staff members) but the wait for the food was excessive, seriously, what Indian restaurant thats NOT Kerala have you waited 40 minutes for each course?? for a moment I was on thier side and thought, well if its like Kerala then it'll be worth the wait....

then the food arrived.... Now, unfortunately this site does not have the ability to upload photos, so you are going to have to use your imaginations... thier 'own special' Tikka Massala was some kind of burnt BBQ chicken in what can only be described as minced Sunday lunch veg with the oil left over... it tasted... ok but not really of anything... the Korma... hahahahaha seriously, my girlfriend has made better when drunk... the saag aloo ... a difficult one to mess up... yep they did it, dry, tasteless.... in fact tasteless seems to be the running theme at Sitar, but looking back the signs were there, what Indian resteraunt do you know that has a salt and pepper shaker on the tables?? think about it... well they did so i should have guessed.

and finally after a wait that seemed like an iceage... came the bill. now dont get me wrong im no scrooge and im happy to pay a good price if the food has been made with care and effort, and im not just talking about more upmarket resterants... anyway, it came in at £60... but seriously people, this is 4 dishes, 2 rice and 2 bottles of water..... think about that for a second...

my only sumation is that they NEVER get tipped so have decided to up the prices so they can at least have some chance of a profit.

So im summary: there are not a lot of Indian resterants on the Strand, only 2 including this one I can think of off hand, but my only advice is: DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. The people who have written favorable reviews here are either employees or have absolutly zero tastebuds... trust me, you only have to walk a short way into covent garden for a good curry, totally jog this place on.
