Tokyo Diner

Went again to Tokyo Diner yesterday and was greeted as usual with the utmost friendliness The constant topping-up of the delicious tea one is served upon taking one's seat makes me feel that I am in someone's home being carefully looked-after.
Choosing from the intriguing menu is a great delight but I was unadventurous yesterday and took the aubergine that I have eaten there before and always enjoy.
From a friend's choice I was allowed a taste of grilled eel. That was something new to me and absolutely delicious.
Thank goodness for a place in the middle of London where I can sit down at any time of day or night and feel at home.

It is ok, the place is tiny but I am not sure I would go back., the staff are polite and really efficient. The food was ok but over priced-the menu is v random.

Great food at reasonable prices. Apparantly very authentic tasting...A trip to Tokyo is in order! A shame they don't have tempura though.

I went a few wkz ago with my boyfriend and i thought the restaurant was quite small and tight but the waitress was really friendly.. She made sure we had tea and our food arrived within good time.. I had a chicken teriyaku with curry and it was so dam delicious! It was a very generous portion as well and the chicken was crispy just the way i wanted it.. I recommend TD to everyone! The bonus is: they dont charge any VAT or service charges cos in japan they don't do that. They just hope you keep going back.. =) talking about TD is making me want to go tonight! Anyways check it out if you haven't..

Like so many of the so-called Japanese diners these days, Tokyo Diner no longer used traditional 'sticky' rice, the kind used in sushi. Such a shame as you can't use American long grain rice to accompany Japanese dishes.
Fortunately, 99% of the customers are happy to be eating what they think is Japanese food.

Don't judge this restaurant by the last two reviews. Sounds like both customers have attitude problems. Its a 'diner', you get what you pay for-really good, quick, freshly prepared food. There are no frills, the food comes quickly, along with the bill. Enjoy your food and get out.

Sadly, I have to agree with the last reviewer about the manager of this place. My husband and I used to regularly go to the TD for cheep and cheerful food, the staff are genuerally friendly and it is overall a relaxed and nice place to eat. However, on our last visit the manager was extremely rude and accused me of pushing in front of some other customers and then ran in front of me to stop me speaking with the waitress! THe other customers had been outside the entrance to the restaurant and I had asked them if I could get by, so his behaviour was totally unnecessary. We left after pointing out to him that his customer service could do with some work and my husband now refuses to go to the TD!

I visited this restaurant last night for a quick bite before the movies and would have been quite satisfied if it hadn't have been for the rude manager. I assume he was the manager as he took stood behind the cashier's desk. We both had the chicken katsudon which was fine although I've had better at cheaper prices. We were still eating when I noticed they had given us our bill. It must have arrived with our food. Fortunately for them we were in a hurry and didn't need more drinks or dessert. I decided to be just as 'efficient' and passed the bill with the appropriate money to the man behind the counter. Our table was within arms reach although he refused to stretch out his arm and take it from me, he just stared stubbornly at me. I stood up and put it in front of him shocked at his rudeness. It was blatent arrogance on his part. I'm not one to make a huge fuss but we won't be returning.
