Kisso Japanese Restaurant

i had an awful dinner here...the service was absolutely poor. Also foods were not fresh enough and i could smell something bad from the cup. I told waiter about the smell and he just ignored. I think he was not listening. I think he was daydreaming (Not concerntrating on his work.)
This isn't all. Impolite waiters, slippery floors, smelly cups, and dappy foods. I'll make this clear, I'm not going back. never. Think I have to tell everyone about this stubborn japanese restaurant.

Sushi is second rate at best. Hot dishes were salty and too much sauce. Servings were stupidly small. Price ridiculously high. Don't mind paying for quality, but this japanese restaurant is sub standard.

This is a neighbourhood favorite of mine. The hot dishes like fried calamari, chicken teriyaki, and various types of noodles are really excellent and probably more of a house specialty than the sushi.

I have now been here - to Kisso - three times, and would say anyone serious about Japanese food should seriously stay away. The sushi chef has little pride about what he puts on the plate. The fish is second rate at best. The chef has that rudeness often found in Sushi chefs - unfortunately his fish preparations don't make up for it. The staff all appear to be scared of him. The last time, sitting at the counter, I showed serious interest in the toro, the uni, the salmon roe. After being told that he wouldn't do an 'omakase' (giving me the freshest fish he has) because there was a 'selection of Nigiri' that would suit my needs, he proceeded to give me a selection with neither the toro, uni or salmon roe. The fish he did give me were no better than Yo Sushi. The rice however was disgusting; cold and claggy, I presume from being left over from lunch.
This meal was a real insult. I can only presume the owner is looking to sell.
Some of the cooked food is passable.

Bar Japan is now called "Kisso" and is nothing like it used to be. Gone is the canteen feel for a smarter decor with dark leather banquette seating and dim downlighting on alternate tables, interspersed with oil burners. Mrs Munch Monster dined with me and we went through sushi, nigiri, starters and mains. The soft-shelled crab was so good we had to order a second, my black cod was good (typically Japanese in size), service was efficient and friendly without being imposing and we left for c£35pp, slightly steep given the drinks included one warm sake for one, one Asahi and two smal bottles of sparkling mineral water, but Japanese food this good doesn't come cheap. Go check it out, I'd love to hear your views.....
