I visited Ajanta on saturday 13th february. I had a bad experience there. From the beginning everything went wrong. First, My friend and I were given a dirty table and not a warm welcome. We looked at the menu, after making our choice we had to wait an extra 10 min to have someone to take the order. there were 3 waiters and the owner on the floor and five tables with customers.
I always start with drink when i order. The waiter thought i was not ready to order the food and told me in a rude manner"Listen I am Busy call me when you are".
I thought that it was extremely bad from his and i ask my friend to go. but as she was tired she wanted to stay.
we order starter for my friend, i did not want any starter at the beginning but then i changed my mind, i ask just for a simple popadum and i had the impression i was really annoying the waiter with my request.
we did not wait long to get the main course. But i had to ask by two times to have a napkin as we did not have any when seated. My friend order, chicken tandoori and i ordered nan with vegetable as well as a prawn Korma. my friend enjoyed her food. my korma was nice but too creamy and heavy. i really enjoyed the nan bread with vegetable.
the restaurant started to be full so we waited 20 min to get the table cleared.
The waiter who did it did not ask if we enjoyed the food, my friend wanted to see the dessert, i asked the waiter and he said "yes, yes" as if he were too busy. i m spending my money there and the service is being rude from beginning till the end.
After 15 minutes wait no dessert menu on the table. i had to go and ask the owner to provide us the dessert menu.
Four people came and were served like kings and queens as they looked wealthy. but i noticed that four other young seated next to us and were waiting ages to have their order taken they then left angry. nobody came to them to say sorry.
after 15 more minutes we got our dessert. i said to the owner i wanted the bill straight away with it but it was not delivered. of course!
When it was delivered i said i wanted to pay with my card. the owner came with the machine, and told me to enter my pin and left, but this guy did not even bother to look at the bill and put the amount in the machine i then put my pin code as the amount. after 5 minutes a waiter came and told me i should be careful next time when it is their own fault.
I ve been working as a waitress and i always give 20 per cent for the service, but the service was so rude and inexistant that i decided to leave nothing. the waiter tried to chat me up only at the end as he saw that i left nothing on the table. i wanted to treat my friend from Paris who came for the week end with a nice indian meal. the food was not the best ever. but the service was the worst i ever got. i would have been fired in my last restaurant if i had this attitude.

I've frequented Ajanta for years now and have never been dissatisfied with the food or service. The owner is a wonderfully friendly guy and what can I say about the food? It's delicious traditional Indian fare but not greasy/oily like you get in other restaurants, which is probably why I go so much! The prawns are fantastic, as is the chicken dhansak. A great location close to Westfield and very tasty indeed.
