Ragam
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
Eleven of us went here last night for a friend's pre-nuptial celebration. Read about Ragam in a rave review in the Guardian. All round very disappointed. The restaurant proposed a 'set' menu for £15 each due to the number of us. We were happy to accept to avoid the usual 'who's having the.........' We were all disappointed with the quantities of food and not overly impressed with quality. The bill was very high at just over £300. We're sure they counted up the beers wrong as we didn't have 2 Cobras each. So with 1 bottle of wine and about 6 desserts where did the other 12 quid each come from? Couldn't be bothered to start arguing the toss, just didn't leave service as it seemed they had already taken it. Try Tayyabs in Whitechapel better food, better value.

I went to Ragam last night with one other diner. The chicken masala dosai and dosai with sambal starters we ate were excellent, the first time we had eaten this pancake. We ate more sambal and chicken and prawn curries, which were delicious, and the green chilli paratha which was wonderfully spicy. Nothing we ate was greasy and we were able to eat a lot without feeling bloated. We will definitely return, this was the best Indian meal I've eaten in London. Service was excellent and rapid and the old-school curryhouse vibe is fairly enjoyable.

There is no better quality Indian food in London for this price. The dishes are consistently tasty, not too oily and there is a phenomenal amount of choice. Most of the Keralan classic dishes are included - such as uttapam and dhosa but also some beautifully simple but dishes such as cauliflower manchurian and pepper wings. There is a good selection of chicken and lamb dishes and dahls. The green chilli paratha is awesome. Central, friendly and simply unbeatable, Ragam is a well kept secret. Enjoy!

Without question this is my favourite restaurant in London.
I visit 2-3 times a month, and have never left disappointed. The staff are very helpful, advising happily on what to choose from their southern indian menu. I often hear them telling new diners that they are over ordering, to save them money - a rarity!
Not to be missed is the fabulous soup - rasam, not for the feint hearted; and their gorgeous sweet coconut paratha's.
This is a small, simple understated restaurant with consistently delicious food. not too be missed.

This is by far one of the best south Indian restaurants in London. My family and I have been coming here for more than 20 years and have never had a bad meal.
The dosai, idlees, sambar etc are all excellent, and if you like spicy soups the rasam is a must.
The place is basic but then eating here is very cheap. Forget the usual curry house staples (which they also serve) and feast on the south Indian specialties. The only mystery about this place is why it's not fully-booked every night.
