Trattoria Mondello

Went to this place few days ago-it was a nightmare!!!Service was really bad!Food was horrible!!! i would not recommend it!!!

The Mondello is one of the West End's hidden gems. We've eaten there for years. We travel the world for a living but always head straight for the Mondello when we return. We used to take clients to the posh restaurants in Charlotte Street and keep the Mondello for ourselves but it was a guest from one of Bali's fivestar hotels who turned our heads. She LOVED the Spaghetti Lobster, one of the staples. Unlike most moderate Italian tratts, Phillipo will happily take you on a tour of his coldstore to show you the fresh fish and meat which they hang themselves. The place is totally without pretension, the house wine is cheap and cheerful, and when Mick Jagger strolled in one evening (the photo is there as proof) he was apparently so impressed he asked for the recipe of Phillipo's soup. Maria takes pride in running a place which has to survive the jungle of coffee shops and here-today-gone-tomorrow chains which abound in the area, but the Mondello soldiers on. As a devotee of their Veal Milanese, I took great delight in reporting back one week that the Veal Milanese I'd had in one of Milan's top restaurants was WAY inferior to the Mondello's!!

I've been visiting Mondellos for a number of years after stumbling on it by accident and having a wonderful evening!

The food is delicious and great value, the service friendly and the atmosphere fantastic!

Visited 24/3/06 and the reviews for this place are right. Food was well presented and fresh. Staff very friendly. Portions were great and the prices terrific. Well worth a visit.

As a foreigner I am constantly dissapointed about the quality of food in this country.

At so many restaurants you end up leaving unsatisfied and with a gaping hole in your wallet.

Mondello is one of the few exceptions I found so far.

I visit Mondello a few times per week for lunch with workmates and so far I was never dissapointed. The quality of food is amazing and the prices great. I do not understand why Brittish people insist on sandwiches and crisps for lunch when places like this excist.

I can recommend the Spagetti con Filetto which is one of my favorites, their Risotto is great as well and if you want to spend a bit extra, go for a steak.

Great work guys, keep it up!

My family have been using this restaurant for many many years. We used to also use their sister restaurant in Theobalds Road until that closed down. In all we have used the two restaurants for the last 20-30 years and can honestly say the quality of the food and service has been consistently high. You are always greeted with a very cheery smile, the waiters are superb, the owners lovely. On top of all that the food is by far the best Italian we have ever tasted. Over the years we have taken many friends and family to Mondello and all comments have been the same, when can we come back.

i have been several times in this trattoria and i have to confess that food is excellent and prices very reasonable.definitely i suggest that place to everyone who wants to enjoy a nice meal in that London area.

I would just like to agree with all the great reviews of this restaurant. I have worked on Charlotte Street for 3 years but for some reason had never visited Trattoria Mondello. I went with a friend last night and I can quite honestly say that it was a great experience. The waiters are so friendly, the food is home cooked and delicious, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and to top it all off, the prices are unbelievabley good value! I will be going again soon and would definitely recommend it!

Having read all the reviews, I had to try the place being an Italian food buff.I took my girlfriend today, as it was her birthday.

We both thought the food was fantastic and the service quick and friendly. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and was always asking after are welfare and personally said goodbye to us at the door - in Italian of course!

Having eaten in Italy many times, I thought it had a real Italian feel to it.

Thoroughly recommend it to anybody for some good Italian food.
