North London Tavern

Such a good pub for not that nice an area. Best bit has to be the food, which is amazing. Varing menu with good British classics. Would definatly recommend.

Pretty average really. Standard "gastro" pub grub -- which doesn't get updated very often (I was there recently and can swear the menu was identical six months earlier). Service is pleasant enough but pretty lax. My partner had pork with onion and sage potato cakes... when he pointed out they had given him pork with FISHcakes instead, the waitress didn't seem overly bothered about the mistake. They eventually gave him a pint for free as compensation. Fine if you live locally and can't be bothered to go further afield. But not worth the effort to travel.

The experience I and three friends had yesterday at the North London couldn't be different from some of the previous glowing reveiws! We booked a table for 2.30 for Sunday lunch in the restaurant. My husband and I turned up early but the staff in the restuarant were unhelpful and suggested we sit in the bar until 2.30 (our alloted time!) even though it was now about 2.15 and the table was empty and waiting for us. At the allocated time, 2.30, we were allowed to sit at our table and ordered our food within about 5 mins. After 20 minutes the starters arrived; the ham terrine was good but the scallops were underwhelming. We then waiting a further 45 minutes for our roast beef and rabbit main courses. When my friend checked the reason for the delay with the waitress, she implied that we had got the times wrong and asked "were we sure?" when we said we'd been waiting for nearly an hour. 15 minutes later (one hour after the started and 1hr 20 minutes after sitting at the table) our mains arrived. My roast beef was two thick slabls of tough, leathery meat with a ridge of thick fat all round it, the vegetables were cold and the gravy was watery and tastless. By this point we were all just glad to get the eating out of the way and decided to just eat what we could, get the bill, pay and leave. Which is what we did. What a disappointment! The people of Kilburn should get out a bit more if they think this sort of service and food deserves continued patronage.

The NLT is my favourite gastropub in NW London. Food is incredible, especially the fish, always seasonal stuff, brilliant atmosphere, media-types but not too cool for school either. great for lazy sunday afternoons but also for a quick "just-one-drink" session after work too. go, go go!!

I have been to North a few times and it has been quite good. This past time however the steaks were quite poorly done, and we were given instant gravy in the place of a red wine demi-glace. All other entrees were very well done and very tasty, but the steaks were atrocious.

The real problem was that there was no real compensation for the meal. Those of us at the table who were not happy left unhappy, and those of us who were satisfied with the food will not be returning due to the indifference showed by the staff. We were given a small percentage off of our meal, but still paid for two steak dinners that were hardly touched.

Overall the experience was average, but there are much better restaurants in London for the money we spent.

This is now our local restaurant when you feel like going out somewhere nice, but don't want to be left with a huge bill at the end.

The 'pub' part is ok, but the restaurant really steals the show. A very nice menu - which changes very regularly it seems - so you can go back and always seem something a bit different.

Pork belly with puy lentils, monkfish wrapped in ham, venison stew, halibut with orange and saffron, squid with chorizo etc.. are all well seasoned and well thought out dishes. There is also the ever faithful steak and chips. The desserts are quite good.. and are huge - so order 1 betweeen 2.

Great place for a cheerful night out.

sunday lunch here is excellent - the quality of the beef is much better than most pubs offer and the veg/salads are delicious too. Downsides are the noise of the music from the bar and the noise of lots of trendy media types waffling...but, don't let that retract from a really great place for a sunday roast...

This is my local and it's fantastic, I love this place. Yes it's frequented by lots of Guardian reading media types in trendy glasses, but it's really chilled out, the food is fantastic (and dining room romantic in the evening), there's a great atmosphere and service is really friendly. For the last two years I've had my birthday sunday lunch there and I'm very tempted to do it again this year as I've always had a great time.

One of the best gastro pubs I have been to. Excellent food, chilled out environment and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend to all!
