You know what you're getting with Browns. Food is pretty grim but cheap as chips. Service is fine if you don't stomp around trying to be Michael Winner. You get what you pay for...

I am amazed to read the poor reviews, I am a regular and in recent months this restaurant has exceeded my expectations each and every time i visit. The menu is standard fayre beautifully cooked and well presented. However if you order this I think you are missing a trick. The chefs here are clearly talented and love what they do, I always order a special, they are always unique, interesting and exciting. I would recommend to all. Speak to the staff there, they are suprisingly knowledgable.

On my visit to Browns Tower Bridge , I was rebuked by a waitress for pre-booking a table outside as this wasn't allowed and that, despite booking, no table was free. After being seated, my family and i were greeted by a waiter who, with a laugh, reeled off a list of 15 dishes that were no longer available "because Browns couldn't risk ordering too much food in case it isn't ordered". Half an hour after ordering, we were told that our orders hadn't actually been taken to the kitchen. At the end of the meal, we decided not to pay the voluntary tip and before we knew it the head chef and hotel manager were at our table demanding to know why. The manager refused to believe we could have been treated rudely stating, "I've never heard anyone complain about out staff before". What a charming way to spend a family sunday lunch!

Very disappointing evening, I went along with my wife after work for a nice evening meal at Browns, my wife had the Sea Bream which was fine, I had the liver and bacon the liver was full of gristle and cold, the service was poor to say the least.
We ordered the sticky toffee pudding and two coffee's five minutes later we received the coffee's but were still waiting after 30 minutes, yes 30 minutes for the pudding , we could wait no longer and asked for the bill; without service charge, the bill arrived 10 minutes later with the pudding, when I complained they offered the pudding on the house with an excuse that "they were busy" the waiter was rude to say the least, making no eye contact when he processed our payment and offering no apology.
I have eaten there before and enjoyed the experience very much; I'll put this one down to poor staff training.
Guy's don't forget your meals are not free, we do have a choice!

At Browns for a family occasion on a sunday night. Really friendly waiting staff - nice shared starters - anitpasto, breads etc. Generous mains - didn't finish my seafood platter. Ok it's not fine dining but all 6 happy with food. Only slight gripe was that we were left without drinks for a time - but that's better than people hovering I guess, Yeah - pretty good, good value. £180 for 6 for starter/main/pud + drinks.

I was amazed to read the reviews from a year ago or more. I have been three times recently, firstly with a group, secondly on my own and thirdly for a special occasion. On the first occasion the restaurant was packed and the service was a little slow but nevertheless charming. On the other two occasions there were very few people there and the service was both prompt and attentive. They made an obscure cocktail which wasn't on the list for my companionand nothing was too much trouble. The butterflied giant prawns I had to start were the best starter I can remember and the fish dishes we had - respectively mullet and salmon were exactly as written up and superbly cooked. The mullet was a 'dish of the day' and described eloquently by the waiter. The sauces were delicate and neither bland nor overpowering. I would agree that generally the wines are a little overpriced but there is a very wide choice.
Evidently they have responded to criticism and bucked their ideas up. Perhaps the place is a bit too big to manage when full but I would recommend it to anyone for any of the types of occasion described above.
