I WAS TEN YEARS OLD WHEN WE IMMIGRATED FROM SINGAPORE (1970)I AM OF INDIAN ORIGIN, I VISIT MY ELDEST BROTHER IN SINGAPORE EVERY YEAR.I DEARLY USED TO MISS KWAY TEOW, ONE DAY CHANCE I NOTICED A CHINESE RESTAURANT CALLED SINGAPORE MADARIN (1984). ILIFE WAS SAVED I TASTED THE BEST KWAY TEOW OUTSIDE OF SINGAPORE AND THE BEST BLACHAN CHLLI SAUCE, BLACHAN IS A CONCENTRATED SHRIMP CAKE. I PERIODICALLY GO TO THE NOW NAMED SINGAPORE CHINESE. DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU TRIED IT, ALSO I RECOMMEND THE ROJAK. FULL POINTS.

I went here with my husband for our anniversary a couple days ago (although we've been a few times already) and I'd rate it very highly. The food is always excellent, the atmosphere lovely (although it's underground), and the staff are so helpful and polite. I think it's a family run business so you'll get a nice personal feel if you chat to the owners.
I'm sure we'll be back!

Unfortunately I have to disagree with all the glowing reports about the food. Last Friday evening I took some friends visiting from Australia to Singapore Chinese. The starters, were fine, pretty standard, then for one of the mains we ordered Szechuan beef - it was so horrible!! I still can't comprehend what we had been served, ok, they're meant to be fried strips of beef but what we recieved were stringy, fatty crisps that tasted just like pork crackling! No vegetables or beef in that dish, we were assured it was what we ordered. I have since researched photos etc., of the said dish and nothing compares to it.

Best food in the area. Food is very nice and big enough portion. Malayasian laksa is very good and never tried such good laksa in london. Also the singapore oyster omellette is very very tasty.

Not sure if the last person was at the same restaurant, but we found the food excellent. Definitely the best Chinese in the area. The food seemed authentic Chinese/Singaporian and the ingredients were very fresh. I loved the Aromatic Crisy Duck.
Although it seems a bit strange being underground, the decor was quite high class and romantic! Will definitely be going back.

Qua lovely restaurant. Staff very friendly (except one waitress which was friendly but a bit foolish maybe she was new). Food was tasty. Atmosphere was a bit gloom, because restaurant is I think old. The walls are dirty in many places, rubbish in ventilation grating, moderate quality decoration. But in England that’s usual so maybe for everybody that’s no problem.
We ordered half Bootle of Japanese sake. We didn’t like it at all. So we asked to change to another drink. We get another drink (cheaper) and they not ask us to pay for sake. Very nice.
There was written that will be 12% service charge, but bill was only for meal. That’s nice to.

the food was appauling, the ambience dated and the overall experience one we would rather forget. forget all the aplomb from the other reviews, a visit to this restaurant is a terribly misleading impression as to what singaporean/malaysian cuisine actually is. dont waste your time or money here - go get your greasy chinese takeout from the high street and you'll get more bang for your buck!

This is the restaurant for excellent Chinese as well as Malaysian style cooking. The Chinese food is excellent for value and there is always enough portion so you are not starve afterward.
It is ashame it open at 12:30 on Saturday and not 12 noon so we can eat longer. Ha ha.

This place is quite typically Malaysian. It even has luxury aircon, the necessary artefact of every aspirational restaurant in the
So far I've only tried the chiken curry here. I am curry, curry ayay. It's very good, lah! Just the way it should be - yellow, creamy and with the olbigatory potatoes.
The menu looks to be very authentic - full of reliable favourites from 'back home' like friend kuay teow, hokkien mee, hiananese chicken rice.
Fatty Lo's Disciple is impressed, and will be back to sample more soon...
