I returned after eighteen months with high hopes and boy, what a horrible come-down.What was once a vibrant eatery with the best steaks in town has become a lacklustre, touristy joint with second rate beef. The service was equally bad and the whole thing felt like a rip-off. So sad that place like this that were once so good can go so quickly down hill.

The food was not bad: decent sized steaks that were cooked to perfection. But the meat was not as tasty as we had hoped after eating Argentinean beef in other restaurants (both in South America and over here). It was also expensive, not far off Gaucho prices. The thing that lets this restaurant down spectacularly is the poor service. One or two of the waiters seemed to be ok. But our waitress was laughably rude. She sneered at us rather than smiled and literally slammed the drinks and food onto the table. She rarely said more than one or two words and showed absolutely no interest in helping us to enjoy the meal. I had to laugh when I saw the £17.50 charge for service! In the end I had to argue with the manager to have the charge removed. I pointed out that this was akin to the charge in michelin starred restaurants but it was a battle to get it removed. None of us would ever go back purely because of the service.

the food is very nice. I am argentinian and i admit that the meat is really good. the atmosphere of the restaurant is really good also. The waiters and waitresses are a disaster. They think they are i dont know what!!!!! they are cheesy and rude. So the restauurant would be brilliant if different people where working there. Really disgusting service and i must say that being argentinian myself it is offending have this sort people working here...

A place which I had been looking forward to for a long time. Did it live up to my expectations? No!!

Admittedly the food was very good, however that cannot compensate for the ABYSMAL service we received. A half hour wait for a menu was just for starters. The contemptous sneer of the waiters was something out of a horror movie. Seriously, people, how does Buen Ayre get away with this behaviour? If it was cheap then it would be more forgiving but the waiters make you feel like they're doing you a favour!!!!

The waiters ended the night with asking that if we wanted dessert then we'd have to order it NOW as they were all sitting down to have their evening meal. Heaven forbid we should ruin their night!!!

We wholeheartedly recommend that you never eat here. Simples!

I've been a couple of times over the past few years and I have to admit it's gone downhill. I went for the 3rd time just before Christmas and was very disappointed. Yes there is a lot of meat but it's actually not as tasty as it looks. The waiters were rude and distracted and the side orders were pathetic. £4.50 for an onion and tomato chopped halfheartedly into a bowl. Oven chips. C'mon guys how hard is it to make chips? Flat lemonade from a plastic bottle. Why not buy some good produce from Broadway market? Maybe they don't care anymore. It seemed that way. I'm not going again.

We ate here last week and although the steaks were good the service was abysmal. The restaurant is run by very rude staff who have a ridiculously high opinion of themselves - avoid this place

I've been wanting to try Buen Ayre for ages but after reading some of the reviews was somewhat put off. Anyway, my boyfriend and I were in Broadway Market last Wednesday and decided we'd give it a go - as long as it wasn't empty! It was almost full but we got a table for 2 fairly easily. We had the empanadas (beef was better than chicken but both nice) then my boyfriend had the fillet steak and I didn't fancy steak so had the sausages. Both were fantastic. I had tried to find fault but failed. It was reasonably priced, service was quick an friendly and we would definitely go back. My conspiracy theory is all the people that have given bad reviews have done so to keep people away so they can keep this little gem to themselves! Or maybe they've just improved (but that's much more boring...!).

If you want a hearty meal of really good steaks of various sorts and rude service then go here.

We have been here a few times before, even to celebrate my birthday once, as the food is good here. But this time we were not prepared for the furore that followed with our waitress. Shortly after sitting down we noticed the table was rather dirty to the touch and almost sticky feel. Cleary it hadn't been cleaned properly so one of our party asked the waitress over to clean the table. The waitress took immediate offence to what was asked and said that they "had been cleaned that day". She also huffed and puffed to go and get a cloth and spray and begrudgingly cleaned only one of our two tables.

There was already an uncomfortable relationship developing with our waitress and we were all fearing what might happen next. When we received our plates, one was quite badly smeared with dirt and obviously hadn't been washed properly. I asked the waitress to change it for another one, where again she begrudgingly took the plate behind the grill area and proceeded to show her fellow waiting staff, expressing her dismay that a customer had had the cheek to point out such a thing. She almost seemed to be complaining to them what I had pointed out and took some time in getting another plate, again very reluctantly. By this time the relations with our waitress were at an all time low when she then delivered the grill with steak.

Coincidently, on the way home we bumped into a friend of ours who lives round the corner from the restaurant. We told her about our experience and she advised that she had also experienced similar experiences with the waiting staff.

We wont be rushing back until the management sit up and pay attention to whats being said and shake up some of its staff as the food itself is very good.

Essex Eating

Essex Eating

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - The table fell upon the braziers like a hoard of vultures; steak and sausages were cut into slices for sharing. (As specified, the steaks were cooked exactly medium rare), and plates around the table were soon heaped with food. The Argentinean steaks are bloody delicious, really very good, superbly cooked, the crisp charred exteriors giving way to moist bloody goodness when sliced into...If you like steaks, I can't recommend Buen Ayre enough. Avoid the footballers wives style bling and naffness of Gaucho Grill. Buen Ayre is where you should be headed for Argentinean steaks.

The World In 202 Meals

Thursday, October 08, 2009 - We ordered two parilladas, the Mixta and the Al Paso, a lot of meat for even the most serious carnivore, but, as the last table of the night, when it came to portion size we did even better: the kitchen piled their leftover glut of sirloin steaks on top of our expected lump of flank steak, sausage, black pudding, short ribs, provolone and mushroom. On the side was the famous oil-chili-garlic-oregano sauce, chimichurri, and two bowls of fluffy, crispy chips (one bowl drenched in garlic and parsley), and our glasses were full of Argentine red from the lengthy wine list.
