El Metro

Coming from the provinces where tapas bars are thin on the ground I had enjoyed this place more than once when visiting my family in Hammersmith but not this last time. The place was immensely noisy making conversation at close quarters near impossible. The huge plasma screens are really overpowering and the volume from them so loud as to be highly intrusive. They weren't even being watched, some of the stuff being shown was also really in your face too. The young couple sat at very close quarters to us were unpleasant dining companions, him surly and rude to the waiter, her, glum. Their evening ended with her throwing a wobbly and storming out knocking over our wine as she exited. I had to ask for it to be replaced. Her place was soon taken by a friend of her boyfriend who duly cleared her amandoned dinner!!
It was very hot in the restaurant and our request for a window to be opened was turned down on account of noise upsetting local residents!
The place is not really as clean as it should be, the floor beneath the crowded tables, the walls and tiles need cleaning. Its looking a bit shabby.
The food was not up to scratch, passable is really all I can say. We were diappointed. Considering we had to travel to get to El Metro, I'm sure we could have done better. I think its going down hill. Sad, but there you are, El Metro needs a wake up call.

I came with my two teenage sons prior to a Chelsea FC home game and they loved it! We shared a decent bottle of wine from Valladolid, staff were amiable and interesting and food was tasty and interesting, if a little un-sophisticated....however, as fastish food goes, it was a really pleasant lunch served in a great atmosphere. We'll come again!

On a balmy midweek May evening I visited El Metro and despite being set back just fifteen metres from the traffic and bustle of Fulham Broadway, this restaurant really is a little slice of Andalucia. With its al fresco dining, its jarras of fruity sangria and its long haired guitar player strumming away at the bar, El Metro does have a genuinely Spanish, relaxed atmosphere. Just a shame that there was a table of pearl-earringed young Fulhamites braying loudly at the next table...The problem with El Metro however is that the food is very poor. I came into the restaurant starving, my mouth watering at the extensive menu. But when I left I was still hungry because the food had been so appalling that I could actually physically not stomach any more of it. The cheese and aubergine rolls were so strong as to be completely inedible (I like blue cheese but these rolls were vile) and the potatoes ali oli were undercooked boiled potatoes covered in a thick layer of oil and cold mayonnaise. Both my girlfriend and I were replused after a couple of mouthfulls. The pollo con ajillo (chicken with garlic) meanwhile combined very poor cuts of chicken with a sauce that was so horribly lemony you could barely taste any garlic at all. Only the albondigas (lamb meatballs) were acceptable. We were also given stale baguettes but without any butter or oil(maybe all the oil had been used up being poured all over the potatoes). Having lived in Seville I do know a fair bit about tapas and this is the worst I have eaten in London. Just 5 minutes down the road opposite Waitrose La Roca tapas bar produces infinitely superior fare and for cheaper prices. I would recommend El Metro for soaking up a bit of holiday atmosphere in Fulham - just be sure you only go for drinks as the food is liable to put you off tapas for good.

This restaurant is a pice of Spain in London. The minute you step in you feel you are in Spain. The food was good, the service was ok and the music and ambience was great!!!
