Cafe Rouge (Hammersmith)

We booked a table for 4 adults for Saturday 11th August for 8.00p.m. My husband and I and two late twenty somethings who still see us as a meal ticket!

Well we duly arrived and the place was virtually empty!!

It was a stiflingly hot day - perhaps one of the few this year and a stroll from Hammersmith Grove where there is Kristofs place - where we did get stung once!

The restaurant was air conditioned and comfortable and the service was friendly and unhurried, the friendly manager was much in evidence. The food is prepared with care and is well flavoured and the house wine perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced. We totally enjoyed the experience and paid a bill which represented excellent value for very good food in an airy tranquil setting.

This venue is unfussy, the portions are very generous beware if you order a starter - particularly the moules mariniere.

Although this restaurant is part of a chain it can be taken seriously. I think this place would make a very good choice for a family lunch for parents who want to sit down with primary school age children and introduce their youngsters to grown up food and table manners away from the fast food scene. Perfect for a working lunch too as it is quiet. It wont disappoint for a special occasion meal for those on a budget or paying for several eaters out of their own wallet! But silver service, pretention and kudos it hasn't.

I am booking for Cafe Rouge, Cardiff Bay next week to see how it compares.

This Cafe Rouge is a little gem and really worth a visit if you live in the area

I've been to this branch of Cafe Rouge a few times and have always found the food and service good and the prices reasonable. There seem to be many bad reviews of other Cafe Rouges so I would like to stick up for this one and say that it's a great place to go for a steak baguette and frites or a coffee and desert and I've always enjoyed my evenings there!
