Much anticipated eating here given it had such fab reviews when it first opened. Not sure if the credit crunch had hit, but the menu on offer was limited to say the least.. and it little resembled the online sample menu their website alludes to... My friend orderd fish and chips - and 20 mins lthe waiter told us that they'd run out. We settled with sausage and mash - which was average to say the least. The sausages were barely cooked, and the mash was extremely bland. No salt and pepper on the table, and no condiments offered during service.
I should mention that the starters were of a fairly good standard (liver pate terrine, and caesar salad), but the menu choice was less than exciting...
I spoke to another diner in the toilet, and they echoed my comments. Similarly they were lured by the initial success of this pub, and the website sample menues, but the reality was quite different...
A very big disappointed, and I'm easily satisfied....

I was so excited about going to the greyhound, we has read such fabulous reviews, but it failed to impress on any level. Service as slow, arrogant and we generally felt like we were annoying the staff by asking for drink / food. We had a table of 10 on the sunday lunch before christmas and as the largest table in a very quiet pub you'd think we'd have great service but no. I'm not sure any of the food was fresh and it seemed too easy and an after thought that they could suddenly turn out lamb shank for 8 us!
Having recommended that 10 of us go here for Christmas, I was really embarassed.

We had dinner last night at the Greyhound. It was my worst dining experience in London ever. Out of about 8 tables there - at least 6 walked out including our table. We sat down at 8 pm and ordered. The starters came at 10 pm. At 11 pm we walked out as only some of the mains had come and some of those received were awful, especially the beef. No apologies for the delays. We just watched table after table walk out until we got really irritated ourselves and left. I felt sorry for the waiters, but it was incredibly poor. Paid for the drinks and left - never to return. Don't go.

I had my first meal at the grey hound last week and I absolutely loved it. I went on a Sunday afternoon with a friend and we thought the food, service, and atmosphere was excellent. I’m fairly new to drinking wine so I didn’t know what to expect, but the staff were really helpful and there is a specially selected wine for each item on the menu. This was fantastic for me; the wines went really well with our starters, mains and desserts. I definitely would recommend the Greyhound to friends and family.

It's just a brilliant pub - friendly, helpful staff, wine list as thick as the bible, amazing food and the place is done up well. It gets my vote and everyone I take there loves it.

As a Greyhound regular infact I live on Simpson street (just around the corner) I have now been going to the this pub since November 2004 so I think I am in a very good place to comment on this gastropub (if that is what you want to call it) it is in fact a very good restaurant disguised as a pub.
The Greyhound is wonderful, in the 3 years I have been going there I havent had a bad meal. I certainly havent found anything that will even come close to it in Battersea.
Although the style of the food has changed with the coming and going of chefs the produce they use has always been first rate. Where it went produce driven last year and quite simple, It seems now to have come full circle as the latest italian import is producing some really interesting cutting edge food.
Now the service always professional and polite I have never found any of them less the charming and as opposed to many london places where everytime you walk in there is a different face, not here the staff seem to stay for long periods..
Wine, no need to comment simple awe inspiring
Thats my take on the Greyhound, I would strongly recommend it and will continue to go back every week

I hate to say it but the greyhound is sadly overpriced, pretentious and the quality of food is lacking. It suffers from the worst offence in the catering trade a lack of consistency. They take themselves far too seriously, relax and enjoy and it will fall into place.
I have lived in Battersea for many years and run a pub in the area so i desperately want this one to work.

Third time here and food better than ever. We both started with pumpkin/ ginger soup with a few queen scallops on top. Lovely, subtle soup with perfectly seasoned/ timed scallops. Then shared grilled rib-eye. As good as the one time I went to a proper top-end steak place in the US, great chargrllied exterior with "rare" interior as requested. Agree with earlier reviewer that beef has been not so good here before, though. Shared good pear cake with rosemary ice-cream. The latter's flavour was excellent. Shared cheese portion.
Can see why people comment on service. Unfailingly polite, knowledgeable staff (except more junior bloke understandably a bit wobbly) but except for the sommelier everyone comes across a bit seriously. Still, would rather have people be themselves than put on any pretence. Everything arrived on time, wine was topped up frequently, and no gripes with attention paid to us.
Had good recommendations for wine at bottom end of their range in the main, don't ask for wine to be brought "blind" though, as ended up with £10 glass of dessert wine without being asked if most expensive one was alright.
Total bill was £146 between two of us, for 2 aperitifs, 3 courses, a bottle-and-a half of wine. As others say, not a gastropub in food or price.

Just moved into the area and found the Greyhound while wondering around. Loved the menu so went in to try it out. They didn't disapoint! Food, wine, service all emaculate. The atmosphere is a little lacking but that's by the by. I'm just realy glad that i've got a fantastic pub and restaurant just round the corner. Will be turning this one into my local for sure!
