Me and my boyfriend visited Stef's last night and I was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was lively and thriving - just what you need for a Saturday night.
Ordered a lovely bottle of the house white to compliment the tagliatelle Maryiln - the prawns were perfect (a generous portion, I must add!), as was the pasta. This was a good Italian meal which is hard to find amongst all the chains of so-called 'Italian' restaurants which are around!
The staff were friendly, courteous and non-intrusive which gave my boyfriend and I the chance to enjoy the atmosphere. What topped off the evening was the price - extremely good value for money!
I would truely recomment Stef's restaurant and will definitely be bringing my friends back there!

Great food, fun atmosphere and excellent value for money!
Working locally, I've spent a few lunchtimes in Stef's and highly recommend it.
The staff always make a real effort, and of course the highlight of seeing Stef himself chatting away to customers is always welcoming. The food and the entire experience are MUCH better than your typical Pizza. If you're a seafood fan go for the prawn risotto......it's amazing!
Looking forward to my next Stef's experience.

My family and I go to Stefs every time we go down to London , the food is fantastic and there is always a lovely warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff are always polite and welcoming, we give the kids the choice of where to eat and every time they say Stefs. A++++++++++++

I guess the few negative reviewers below must have been to Stef's on an off-day, or were having an off-day themselves, because I have been there twice now, and both times thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service, the atmosphere, and even the bill at the end!
First time was with my boyfriend, on a busy Friday evening - we were seated quickly and attended to in an efficient and warm, but not intrusive manner. Our food arrived promptly, Stefano advised us on the wine choice, and we were left to enjoy our meal and the buzzy atmosphere around us.
The more recent time I was at Stef's, I had organised a dinner for 14 people on a Saturday evening. I had contacted Stefano in advance and he was extremely helpful and accommodating to all our requests, and even arranged a fantastic fresh fruit and chocolate cake to be ordered externally, at a great price, which left everyone in our party impressed.
For any doubters, I'd say give it a try - I am yet to find another restaurant in central London which offers such friendly service, such tasty food and such reasonable prices! A real gem, and I know I'll be back again soon.

The food is not dreadful, but quite average Italian food. I had quattro fromage gnocchi which was over seasoned with salt.
The service, while not being rude, is pretence in a way to irritate some; I'm not impressed when the waiter thinks he's your best friend by knowing some cultural features of your country (It might work with tourists).

We found Stef's through the pages of london-eating and after reading the various reviews written on the numerous different options, decided to give it a try.
We are glad we did. Service was excellent on a fairly busy night, even with a large party of 12 at the table next to ours. The standard menu and specials available on the night made the decision on what to eat a difficult one. The quality of all the dishes we tried was excellent and the portion sizes were generous, not what we expected from a city centre retaurant at all.
Overall value for money was superb, a very pleasant surprise. We would have expected to pay £20 or £30 more for our 3 course meal with a bottle of wine.
Made our weekend trip to London a memorable one and we would not hesitate to return on our next visit, or to recommend it to anyone looking for good food at reasonable prices.

Sadly, I just had a second disappointing visit to Stefs, after many enjoyable previous ones over the years. Last time I decided it would be the last, but on impulse today I went with 2 friends for a late lunch - this will most likely be the finale !
We didn't feel at all welcome, but I know that was because we were 3 men, and the surly/bored waiters were not going to cheer up for us.....
The food was fine, but we could have had the same in Pizza Express with a bit more professionalism, and CHILLED beers.
The waiters did cheer up significantly as we were leaving, as 2 pretty young ladies came in the enquire about booking a party for 35 more young ladies... We, of course, vapourised into obscurity
Strangely, the last time I was there we had very similar treatment..... that time I asked for some ice for my beer and was mocked for having it, but no there was no offer of a bottled beer at the correct temperature. An uninspiring calzone didn't help matters either.
BUT a party of 8 attractive American Ladies were seated next to us during the course of our meal, turning the waiters into what can only be described as "dogs on heat".....so after that we didn't even get the "surly treatment", only a still frozen dessert, eventually......
A work colleague that happened to be there the same evening mentioned the poor service received and said that they would never go again!
It's a shame that the good food is not matched by an equally good service any longer. I really believe that Stefano - who's always been very welcoming - should pass some of his expertise and good manners on to the waiting staff.
With so many similarly themed Italian restaurants with equally similar menus and prices I don't think I will make a special trip to Berners Street again.
