The interior designs of the restaurant throughout was very nice. But I didnt get the comfort and privacy factor for me and my family, instead everyone could dee what was on my table and what was going into my mouth. Staff were not professional at all, everyone seemed to be wearing jeans and there was no colour coordination amonsg their shirts. Food was excellent and pricing was reasonable. its a shame that i experienced a few dislikes but what the heck, everything can't be 100% hunky dorreh.

My boyfriend took me to cliftons restaurant on valentines day & i was very impressed!

On arrival we were immediately escorted to the very trendy bar and given a complimentary glass of champaign.

We didnt have to wait long for our meals at all & chose the special valentines set menu which consisted of, a selection of fish cakes, kebabs & onion bahji's for starter & for the main meal, sag prawn & lamb xacuti.

The portions were fantastic and the food was incredibly flavored! I found the waiters very polite & the atmosphere was great! The romantic gesture of hearts on the windows & the decor made the whole evening very romantic!

I would definately come again & recomend this restaurant.

As so many out-of-town guests like to go to Brick Lane, we always walk to the middle of it, walk down through the restaurant insanity, and end up at Clifton. The food is very good, and the staff is friendly -- it's the kind of place you want to go to, though you would not want to sit downstairs (but I've never had to in a dozen visits). I almost didn't get a table though, so do book in advance.

Being Bengali girls, we don't usually go to brick lane for a curry, but seeing as it was the first restuarant there we popped in. The atmosphere was very lively, the service was great and the food tasted exquisite. However, we thought the portions were slightly too small for it's price.

wow, what an experience - i went to Clifton on fiday 9th december with some friends who were over from america, i wanted to impress them so took them to Clifton, the interior and the general experience is different to all the other brick lane restaurants, so they certainly were impressed!

ive been to Clifton only a few times before and feel in love with the food then, so when i took my friends on friday, i was certainly not disapointed! you have to try the cornofuli - really different!!!

I thought days of this kind of restaurant had gone out with the 80’s, but they are still alive and kicking.

The service (or lack of) was rushed from the start from the out dated mineral water on table to the waiters rushing around without a care of what you actually said to them.

All the waiters wore different “uniforms” two of them where in jeans and t-shirts.

We where told that there where no more popadoms, yet every other tables had them, when we asked them to explain this they turned around and said they do have them now, I think they where trying to cut things out to get rid of us early. The Hilton which was on the table and which we did not order has the old logo on it, this prompted me to look at the date, we had to ask for napkins and they arrive halfway during the main course. When taking the order the waiter didn’t seem to hear half the stuff we said and was busy to scribble anything and rush off.

The food when it came wasn’t too bad for the money, but the atmosphere in the place was hectic and unprofessional. I guess brick lane is busy enough to let people like this still get away with running restaurants, but I for one will be keeping well clear.

we've been here a few times, and for us it sits alongside Le Taj, several rungs above the standard Brick Lane fare. the Lamb Xacuti is a really spectacular dish, and one i go back to again and again. the restaurant is bright and airy, and the cooking area is visible from 3 sides, which is a nice touch. the staff are very attentive and helpful - almost too much so, sometimes. perhaps this is because its always so quiet - as the first restaurant on the strip, and far from the cheapest, i'm sure many people just walk on by - i don't think their downstairs section has ever been used.

you should give it a try, anyway. the Xacuti is worth the price of admission alone, and really it pisses all over most of the places on Brick Lane. i'm sure if the employed a tout offering discounts like some do they'd do much better, but really that would be selling a good restaurant short.
