What a fab little restaurant !! We booked a table of four and enjoyed a memorable evening of delicious tapas, quality Spanish music and excellent Rioja. The wine list has a top selection of Spanish reds and the tapas menu is extensive, with all of the popular dishes plus some unusual but very tasty ones. The service was as it should be...the tapas came out as they were cooked, rather than all at once....Tapas are for sharing and should be eaten as soon as they hit the table with more to follow in no particular order. They also offered a menu of grilled main course items...we greedily shared a Spanish mixed grill which included rabbit..it was sensational ! Overall a good choice on the London tapas scene if you love great food.

Nine out of Ten for Ten Tables !

We were fairly disappointed in our visit to Ten Tables.

Three of us visited using the London Eating offer of 3 tapas + drink for £15, which was very good value, but unfortunately the quality of food, service, and atmosphere were not up to standard.

The restaurant has a slightly strange atmosphere, being just off a hotel lobby, and not that much care seems to have been taken with the decoration. The service was very friendly – the waiters we spoke to were all nice, but the main problem came with the timing of the food. Firstly, it took a very long time between ordering and the food arriving. And when it did, they brought 3 of our tapas out, which we started to nibble on, but we wanted to share all of our tapas, so waited for the others to arrive. When they still hadn’t arrived after 15 minutes, we asked if they were coming, and were told they were on their way. It was then another 20 minutes until they did actually arrive (4 of them at least, then there was a further wait for the remaining 2). There was no real explanation as to what had caused the delay, and while the waiter was apologetic, it really caused a disjointed meal. The quality of the food was also disappointing – not terrible, but far from the best tapas I’ve had in London.

During my 6 years in the capital my sister and I have been tasting our way round all of the Spanish restaurants in London. Not a rapid tour but certainly an agreeable one, well, it was until last night.

Ten Tables! Ten Tables is a small room attached to the reception of a hotel and that is exactly what it feels like. The only attempt the place has made to look Spanish is put up a few shelves of items such as olive oil bottles and a paella pan! Oh and a couple of Spanish painting. It has absolutely no atmosphere, so you'd hope the food makes up for this.

Unfortunately the food is terrible. We had Croquetas de Jamon, which looked and tasted as I imagine Finders Crispy pancakes do. The Calamari a la Romana, was soggy and obviously straight out of a freezer bag. The Chorizo was tastless and over chewy. The Rabbit was drowned in tomato sauce and otherwise tasteless.

There were two saving graces in the shape of the Jamon de Serrano which was good and the anchovies in oil which was also nice, but really who could mess up these two dishes.

The wine list also leaves alot to be desired.

I cannot however fault the service.

Don't go.

We went to "Ten Tables" on Thursday 2 March and although I haven't tried tapas many times before, I have to say that the food at Ten Tables was absolutely wonderful!

We asked the waiter to choose 12 different kinds of tapas which we would then share and each and every one of the dishes was brilliant. Excellent food!

The service was also very good. The waiter brought three dishes at a time and timed the arrival of new dishes very well and he was very attentive with water, wine etc. without the least pushy.

Regarding the price our friends were good enough to pick up the tab, so I don't know how much it cost, but it was probably somewhere around £00-120 including wine and desert. Very reasonable considering the quality.

I can only recommend this restaurant others! A very nice neighborhood as well by the way.

We went there last weekend as part of a weekend break deal with the Hotel next door as it included a 2 course dinner.

We were told by reception no need to book but when we went down for dinner we were told to go and have a drink in the bar whilst we waited. After 15 minutes we went back and were given a table by the door, was very busy and they had a large party of about 20 people all quite drunk right next to us.

The food was okay but not outstanding.

Starters we had Croquetas de Jamon which were lovely and filling but served quite plainly, just four balls on a plate! Also had paella valenciana was okay but the fish in it was not very good and couldnt find any chicken in it..

Main I had the salmon in prawn and caper sauce was not very nice, the prawns were tasteless and the salmon slightly over cooked, came with lovely chunky mashed potatoes though! My partner had 28 day sirloin steak which was lovely and perfectly cooked.

Desserts I had their choc fudge cake which was divine, made up for my two bad choices! Was light yet indulgent with lots of hot sauce and ice cream! My partner had strawberry cheesecake, was lovely but a little on the 'tart' side.

We had a lovely bottle of Merlot at £16.75 definately recomend it.

What I liked was at the start of the meal I asked for some water and the waiter refilled my glass all evening, was a nice touch.

Liked the layout was cosy and tables far enough apart so you call talk privately if needed.

Since all of my first-choice Spanish restaurants were fully booked on Valentine’s Day, I decided to be a little adventurous and chose this restaurant based on the strength of previous reviews.

This establishment appears to have been expanded recently. It now has at least 20 tables. Alas, along the way, the quality of the food appears to have undergone some unsuccessful reconstruction.

Food

-------------

Only the special Valentine’s Day set menu was available that evening. This consisted of a platter of tapas for starters, a choice of main (roast lamb shank, pan-fried salmon and cod, or a vegetarian pasta dish, none of which sounded Spanish), and a platter of chocolate sweets for desserts.

I’m no expert in Spanish cuisine, but I don’t think smoked salmon and imitation crab stick are part of the tapas repertoire. Yet, there they were in the tapas platter, along with rubbery and dried-out prawns and mussels. My salmon/cod dish consisted of decently cooked pieces of salmon and cod fillet, which unfortunately was ruined by an inedibly-sour sauce adorned by the reappearance of the dried-out prawns. My girlfriend’s slow-roasted lamb was nondescript but edible. Mind you, it would have taken quite an effort to ruin slow-roasted lamb.

For this, they charged £35 per person. Our bill came out to £78, including 2 glasses of wine, excluding service.

Service

---------------

The service was acceptable, prompt and polite. Service charge was not automatically included in the bill.

Ambiance

---------------

This restaurant is part of a hotel.

Dining room was quiet and conversations can be held at normal volume. Granted they were only about a third full when we where there.

There is no telltale sign of the Spanish music mentioned in previous reviews.

Conclusion

----------------

Sub-standard institutional food charged at an ambitious price. In other words, a rip off. If they keep this up, I suspect they can survive as a business only by relying on the semi-captive customs of the hotel patrons.

Perhaps we had the misfortune of coming here when the regular chef was off, and when Valentine’s Day tempted them to significantly mark up the prices. Perhaps on normal evenings the experience would have been completely different. But we’ll never know because we are not coming back.

Ten Tables doesn't have ten tables at all.

We went there on Saturday night - but it was disappointing. We enjoyed the food - but I wasn't particularly interested in the tapas on offer. It's the kind of place you go to if you've just arrived at your hotel, exhausted after travelling.

And £4 for water is a bit excessive, even in London.

We took your recommendations on this lovely little place (didnt realise 10 tables meant literally!) for a Saturday evening, and were not disappointed!

The 3 tapas and sangria for £15 was excellent value, with only 2 tapas served at a time (unlike other places where all served at once and they go cold!), and some of the best tapas we have had in years.

Would not hesitate in recommending it.

I dined at Ten Tables with 5 firends and we had a great time. The live music on Friday night was a pleasant suprise and the food was terrific! Very authentic, great value and the restaurant has a great location near Gloucester Rd tube. We will be back!
