I HAVE LIVED IN WEST HAMPSTEAD FOR 6 YRS,, THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST ITALIAN IN THE AREA AND I WOULD SAY HAS ONE OF THE BEST VEAL MILANESE OUTSIDE OF ITALY.
ENJOY ESPECIALY IN THE SUMMER TIME WHEN ONE CAN SIT OUTSIDE IF THE WEATHER DECIDES TO PERMIT!!!

When I first moved into West Hampstead we were sitting outside 'another' Italian restaurant on a night when Italy were playing football (I'm more of a rugby man for this particular reviews purpose) I had often looked at Smorfia and it wasn't the overly fussy typical Italian - where you're told gushingly that everything is perfect, you're perfect and that they'll write to you every day...
So, when I noticed it was overspilling with Italians watching the football who then all disappeared after the game leaving only a few staying on to eat - I thought - 'this is a proper Italian restaurant' and indeed that's absolutely right.
Authentic food in authentic surroundings, courtesy but not insincerity, reasonable prices, great chef, reliable and now a feel at home favourite. Don't tell too many people though :-)

I've been coming here since I moved to the area a few months ago, it's my standby for those want to go out but don't know where to go nights. This is the definition of a decent, good value pizza restaurant. Nothing fancy, not bad service, and a decent selection of wines. In short - great place, good prices, very fun.

Been here several times now and love it. It's become our favorite local pizza place. The pizzas are delicious, and our group has tried many different ones. The service is just right. Prices are good. I'd recommend they warm up the interior decoration a bit -- it feels a bit cold -- but I leave satisfied and happy every time.

We've been going to this restaurant for 5 years. The food is always excellent, sometimes a little on the slow side but it's been quicker lately. This really is the best Italian in London. Wonderful staff and great menu.

We discovered la Smorfia quite sometime ago.
It is a pleasure to see that the same high standard of cuisine has been kept throughout. In the West Hampstead area La Smorfia is the only Italian restaurant where we eat original Neapolitan recipes, such as the fried antipasti and garganelly. Some pastas in the specials are home made and fish is always fresh. Although their pizzas are cooked in a electric oven, they are nice and crispy.
The wine list is quite satisfactory and the level of service is genuine and unpretentious. The chef acts as a waiter at times and the owner is also very friendly and forthcoming. We wish them to keep this family business as it is, keeping up the overall standard as this is utmostly needed in West Hampstead more and more colonised by chains and cowboys alike.
The downside can be the limited opening hours, as during the week is not open for lunch.

Having not given it a good review previously, I thoguht I'd see if it could redeem itself on a recent visit (also, as I could not face eating a chain pizza).
The pizza was thin and had good dough, but the toppings were extremely stingy.
For such a small restaurant, the attention to detail was poor: took a while to be served, and the complementary micro bruschetta came just after- not before- my pizza.
The tiramisu was one of the worst things I have chanced to eat: dry, bland. Tasted as if it had been made a year ago ( the waiter said it had been made that day, in a way that convinced me even he didnt believe that).
Two strikes, out. Shame, as I like tosupport my local gaffes.
