Paternoster Chop House

I eat out alot and was looking forward to some quality meat at the 'Chop House'. The quality of meat was low, it was cheap meat, and served luke warm! The food was well presented but of low quality. Service was OK if you dont mind chasing them up a few times. This was the worst dining experience any of us have had for a while and was very expensive too. Not reccommended at all I'm afraid. If you want good quality meat head down to the restaurants around Smithfields, Farringdon. Dont waste your money here...

I ate here last evening with two mates. The restaurant was very noisy (eventhough it was only about half full) and so it was impossible to chat. Food was average - too few shrimps in the potted shrimps, overcooked liver and rubbery heart, weird-tasting turbot, though the Loch Fyne oysters to start were excellent - very fresh and creamy. Top marks go to all the lovely waiting staff - they are professional, knowledgeable and helpful - shame the standard of the food lets them down.

First rate, Pricey.....but you are clearly paying for what you get. Is a daytime place for bankers and lawyers, more than a night time venue.
I took my lawyer out for lunch, and we joined the masses that come from the surrounding offices. We had a great table at the window. I had the Red Bream, which is brought from Cornwall, beautifully cooked with sea beat, which is wild and comes from kent. She had bangers and mash, which she also enjoyed.
What I like about this place, is that you can see the kitchen, and you can see its clean. The staff are happy, and attendtive, not stuffy and snobby!.
I also like that the foods are freerange or wild, and I get the feeling that the chef realy cares about the origin of the foods, as the entire menu is 'happy' meats, and rod caught fish, and wild foraged salads.

I will never eat here again. The service was terrible and we waited over an hour for our starters. The staff seemed clueless and the food was undercooked and way overproced.

Four of us (one American, one French, one Portuguese and a token Brit, all 50+) dined here extremely well last night. We ate fishcakes, smoked salmon and Partridge Pie, followed by delicious, tender White Park beef for the guys, with Pollock (du jour) plus an enticing ensemble of seabass and monkfish, for the dolls. This was rounded-off by a melange of sticky, gooey puds. We were welcomed with smiles and the service was first rate (10/10 for our waiter Matt). The staff, including those in the open kitchen, clearly got along well with each other, which contributed to this reataurant's pleasing atmosphere. With first-rate ingredients expertly prepared and served, there's bound to be a big bill. You get what you pay for, which we certainly did last night. We'll be back soon.

No great wow factor here...but fairly good food in nice surroundings. Far too expensive, but you are paying for location (Paternoster Square is beautiful) - the food is nothing to write home about. Service was good.
I would recommend going here for a drink, but save your food money for somewhere where you can get great food for a similar spend.

This place is definitely not worth a visit. The food is as other reviewers can confirm seriously overpriced! I paid £22 for some wild salmon and even though the fish was of good quality they managed to ruin it by over cooking it. With the salmon I got 4 tiny bacon bits and probably 7 broad beans. £22 anyone?? Together with some potatoes and water the bill was almost £30. Excuse me but I can go to a Michelin starred restaurant like Petrus and have their lunch menu for £30 and that includes amuse, starter, main, dessert, bonbon trolley - the lot! Anyone with half a brain and a couple of taste buds would know what to pick. Stay far away from Paternoster Chop House unless you have too much money and no taste.

Soooooooooo overpriced. £20 for bangers and mash or cottage pie. I don't mind paying for decent food but this was okay at best - it is difficult to understand how bangers and mash or cottage pie can ever cost that much. Service was okay but not discrete - bang, crash wollop most of the time. Chicken pie takes over 30 minutes to be "freshly prepared" so be warned if you are in a rush.
Honestly this place is so overpriced.
