I have since left Balham. I miss Nanglo. Great waiters and the best Peshwari nan I have ever tasted. I still miss it now.

It's hard to know where to start with this review - I've been a loyal customer of Nanglo's since moving to South London almost 4 years ago.

I guess it all started when our landlord said 'If you like Nepalese food then I thoroughly recommend the place opposite…' As we hadn't a clue what Nepalese food is we decided to check it out and grab a flat warming take away from there that evening! Since then we've called on Nanglo's time and again to demolish our hunger pains - from grabbing takeaways, to arranging birthday meals in there we've never once been disappointed. Friends and relatives that come to visit invariably get dragged across the road to experience this fine restaurant - the main attraction being that you can always get a table and you are guaranteed an impressive delicious feast for your money!

To give you some kind of idea what nepalese food is like I can only think to describe it as the lighter version of an Indian, much the same as Thai food is like a lighter version of Chinese...

The restaurant décor is clean and fresh with split level seating. As soon as you walk in the door the staff are attentive and friendly. It's fully licensed and air conditioned. Location wise it's situated on Balham High Road opposite Blockbusters. It's about a 5 minute walk from Balham tube/overground station, and about 7 minutes from Clapham South tube station.

The menu is extensive with dishes ranging from very mild to very spicy! Starters range from £2.50 - £4, my favourite being the vegetable khaja (selection of fresh vegetables including mushrooms, potatoes and aubergines dipped in light batter and deep fried, garnished with salad and served with home made chutney) this provides a big enough starter for two to share and at £3.50 is an absolute bargain!

There's clay oven dishes, chicken, lamb and sea food dishes, biriyani and the Nanglo chef specials. Plus a good selection of vegetable dishes, various rice, and at least 10 types of tandoori bread to choose from.

My favourite main dish has got to be the king prawn aishwarya - at £10.50 it is one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, but when you want to treat yourself sometimes it just has to be done, especially when you read the explanation in the menu 'king size prawns cooked with garlic, fresh coriander, tomatoes and very special spices, favoured by young princesses for their romantic nights out, they say it has secret power' that has sold it to me time and time again!

The toilets are downstairs and aren't the biggest in the world, but they are clean and presented well.

One of the most appealing things other than the great food and service here is the fact that it's so down to earth and unpretentious. Everyone I know that has gone there loves it and goes back time and time again. The only thing I can't really understand is why they aren't constantly busy every evening! The atmosphere in there is so amiable and even when they appear to be completely full they still don't hurry you to make room for another sitting. The small bar at the front of the restaurant can accommodate those wishing to wait for a table, or those coming in to collect there takeaways.

Personally I love this place, and will continue to go there time and time again. You're always guaranteed a good meal at a reasonable price, and the fact that the staff are so friendly is just the icing on the cake for the whole experience!
