The food was good but unspectacular. I actually think that it is a little expensive for what it is and it doesn't differ from the myriad or choices of Japanese places available.

Recently discovered Edokko and have been going back every now and then whenever we want some good buckwheat noodle soup. Their side dishes (love their little yam balls) and sushi are pretty good too. We usually order one of their soba noodle soups each, with a small portion of sushi, some tempura, japanese pickles and agedashi tofu. Their menu is quite varied and so we have not tried everything on it yet. However, everything we have tried so far has been good. It is a bit pricey for a night out (on average £30 per person including a beer each) but relative to other Japanese restaurants of that calibre, not too expensive. The decor is quaint, relaxing and lovely to us. It is what seems to be a very traditional Japanese set up (most tables are in a sunken area, where there are cushions on the benches beside the tables). Waitresses are friendly, helpful, well versed in their menu and attentive in that clean neat and well spaced out restaurant. They provide a complimentary orange at the end of the meal. Be warned, you are required to take off your shoes before seating yourself, so you might want to make sure your socks have no holes in them. We do not hesitate to recommend this place as a treat, not only for the food but also for the senses as well.

I am surprised by some of the bad reviews here. I have been going to Edokko for about 7 years, on average every three or four weeks, and have never had a bad meal. The set lunches are great value - especially the sushi and tempura set - and dinner, while a little pricey, is no more expensive than an equivalent quality meal elsewhere. The manageress is always welcoming and friendly and the other staff helpful: yes, the waitresses' English isn't always great but that is part of the experience and I have never been given the wrong order. It is also one of the few places for a weekday lunch where you can guarantee being in and out in an hour (if you want to be). It is one of my favourite places in London.

Edokko is the best Japanese restaurant in London. Food, service, ambience are faultless. In the evening it is much more expensive, granted. But try the fatty tuna (you're probably not supposed to ...) and you'll see why.

I went there last Saturday with friends and ordered £18 unagi dish, which I expected to be great, and it was nice, but nothing too special about it, similar dish with the one in Tokyo City – Gresham St, the place that I usually go for lunch, with cheaper price. The sashimi and sushi was good, well cut and fresh.

One thing that annoyed me was the service, one waitress was extremely rude, we asked for different table, and that might upset her but I don’t think that’s an excuse to be rude to customer. I was tremendously disappointed with the service. I wish I had her name so I can file a complaint to the restaurant. The other waiting staffs were nice but they don’t speak English very well and had difficulties when we asked about the foods and recommendation. The bottom line is, the place was nice (except for the waitress) but it is over-hyped to be named as the one of the best Japanese restaurant in London.
