I actually love this place, it is the best fish and chip shop in London. I cycle past it very day coming back from work, and I can usually smell the fish and chips 100 metres down the road, which makes it very tempting to go in and eat as it smells so good.

It is not cheap, but I think the fish and chips here are worth the price. There have been times when I've eaten there and thought it wasn't great, then I'd go back and eat there a month or so later and it would be superb! I think the quality of food boils down to how freshly cooked your fish and chips are. I find when they cook to order the food is flawless, If the food gets to your table in under a minute - then its not so great.

I've seen people come in and ask for freshly cooked fish and chips and they don't seem to mind cooking it - but maybe you need to be a regular.

The decor is very old school which I think adds the charm of the place. The service and staff are OK, but if you are expecting La Caprice style service you'll probably be disappointed.

The Fryer's Delight USED to be a great fish and chip shop. Not sure if the ownership has changed over the last couple of years but the place had really gone downhill.

The portions have shrunk. The fat isn't changed often enough. No proper mushy peas (I know! Can you believe it!). Sullen service by the fryers. Worst of all: the batter is absolutely saturated with fat (presumably it isn't kept hot enough?). I also agree that it's stingy not to give free sachets of tartare.

It's a shame. I used to love going to this place as a treat after a couple of pints. I very rarely bother now. It seems much quiet these days so I know I'm not the only one.

Quite disappointing. Portion of cod and chips was very small for £7 and everything else was extra including tartare sauce which came in sachets. The actual food was fine when it arrived. Just not good value for money. Didn't even get a lemon with the fish. If you want to eat excellent fish & chips in London, go to Master's Fish in Waterloo, where your bread, some shrimps, and pickled onions, gherkins and tartare sauce are included free at about the same price. We only went to Fryer's Delight as we happened to be in the area. Won't be going back.

Awful. I'd have have left such food on my school plate, & I was really hungry back then. The current owners would probably have ruined the decor too, if it cost them any money or effort to maintain.

This is one of the most overpriced chips shops in Britain.

Regular Chips - £1.40, Large £2.00

Large is usally the same size as regular chips you'd get in a normal chipshop!

The guy behind the counter is so slow and makes it look like it is such a big chore to put chips into folded paper - as if he was a Michelin star chef or something!

I use this chippie on a regular basis (when i have an urge for chips - usually on Fridays after work) - unfortunately it's the only one in the area - otthewise i would leave this grotty establishment.

Seriously disappointing! Overpriced, oily food and terrible 'service'.

The man taking orders made it seem a chore to take ours, and when we asked for a napkin (as the fish was SUPER oily) we were bluntly refused one and offered a piece of paper instead! Luckily a slightly friendlier woman behind the counter gave us ONE napkin to share.

Honestly, how did this place get such good reviews? The 60s interior is wonderful and our main motivatioin for going there but it can't make up for everything else.

How can you get fish and chips wrong?! A smile wouldn't go astray either...

Bellaphon

Bellaphon

Monday, June 20, 2011 - The batter, although not soaking with fat was woefully under-seasoned. The chips tasted entirely synthetic and soggy. And what of the myth surrounding beef dripping used as the de facto fat at The Fryer's Delight? A load of codswallop is the plain and simple answer I could muster with confidence...The recurrence of the good reputation The Fryer's Delight has been clinging on to is hopelessly out of date; unfortunately the current owners have lost the plot and they'll probably never understand why they've made a diabolical embarrassment out of England's national dish. One to avoid.
