The food has always been fantanstic. It is a shame that it has closed down.
It was one of my favourite London restaurants . Finding another that can match it on quality and value for money will be difficult!! I'm getting withdrawl symptoms just thinking about it !

Excellent value and quality - one of the best and most affordable restaurants in Upper Street (which is full of restaurants offering overpriced and mediocre food). As good as the Turkish restaurants in Dalston and Stoke Newington, which are the best in north London.

I have been going here for just over 5 years now, since I first moved to London, and have never been disappointed.
Lamb shish must be the tenderest and best tasting I have ever eaten, and the starters of hummous and kisir (spiced cracked wheat I think) go perfectly with the Turkish bread. Excellent value.

Despite the fact that Upper Street has a huge amount of restaurants, overall there is not much quality here.
Angel Mangal is probably one of the only restaurants that I can think of in Upper Street that offer consistently excellent food (even better than the Ocakbasi's you find on the Kingland road) and true value.
The staff are also are very friendly and attentive. The decor is not great and probably the only let down.

I visited this restaurant last Saturday evening with a friend. I've never tried Turkish food before...but this place has become my new best restaurant in the area. I liked the decor....daringly different and giving more than a touch of authenticit to the place. The staff were very friendly without being overbearing, explaining the different dishes to me. I'm afraid that I cannot remember the different dishes that I had...but there were little earthenware pots of everything. A little hot starter dish with prawns and aubergines and things, and then a larger dish for my main course...with meatballs and potatoes in a spicy tomatoey sauce, and a delcately flavoured rice pudding to finish. We were served a variety of breads...a huge round air-filled pitta type bread straight from the oven...and a flat bread. These were useful in mopping up the delicious sauces..and eating with the complimentary olives. My friend chose lamb kebabs with salad....lots of it and had yoghurt and honey to finish. We had soft drinks rather than alcohol and the bill came to a very reasonable £15 each)A wonderful eating experience. This place is very popular and is likely to increase in popularity. I hope that it doesnt change!
