Its surprising how good ASK is considering its a chain restaurant. The pizzas are good and with a great variety of unusual combination of toppings. The chicken, mushroom, cheese and penne dish is really good. My new favourite is the large raviolli stuffed with seafood (crab, prawn etc) in a white wine sauce. Its the most wonderful combination of falours. I couln't belive how much actual crab and prawn was in each raviolli, often in other restuarnats they are bumped up with fillers! I highly recomend this under-rated restuarant. Its a pleasant spacious place with freindly helpful staff.

I went to ASK recently for a reasonable meal with a friend. I have been told by people that it is better than Pizza Express. Perhaps I had a particularly bad experience but I can't agree at all.

ASK is a direct competitor to Pizza Express, and there is one across the road in upper street, so it makes sense to reviewe this restaurant in comparison.

On price I think ASK may be the winner. But the difference is marginal. You might save a quid on a £15-20 a head meal but hardly significant in the scheme of things.

I have two criticisms of ASK - food and service. Pretty fundamental.

The Pizza's definitely are not as good as those from Pizza Express. The bases simply don't taste fresh. I have heard from a reliable source that pizza express uses frozen bases, but they are acceptable to my palate. Ask's base is chewy. I can only assume they also use frozen bases, but their thawing or freezing process is inferior, and therefore the quality suffers.

Service was very poor. The staff were inattentive and disorganised. I heard the apology that they were "very busy tonight", but less than half the tables were full. In contrast I find Pizza Express usually gives service ranging from reasonable to good.

Overall I think for a casual Pizza meal, I'd chose Pizza Express any day.
