Al-Dar II

We went to Al Dar on Kings Road last night before going to the theatre. I hadn't realised it was possible to make such a hash of lebanese food. This was the worst meal I have ever eaten.
I have coealic disease and cannot eat gluten so as the menu states please inform us of any allergies, I duly told the waitress and had a really hard time trying to make her understand me. Finally she understood. My colleague ordered boneless baby chicken which was unavailable. I ordered Ayran yoghurt as a drink, which unbelievably was unavailable. How can any self respecting Lebanese restaurant run out of Ayran?
My meal was mediocre (char grilled chicken with a very poor salad) but my friend's meal of minced lamb kebab was disgusting. The only vaguely nice item we ordered were the stuffed vine leaves which I presume was bought in.
The service was poor, the toilets were appalling, no locks on the door, no toilet paper, just industrial kitchen roll and there were cracks in the floor upstairs.
This restaurant does not deserve to be open and certainly does not deserve to havee continued custom.

Went here some time in 2008 Winter.
Value for money. But the interior or service was not very great!

In our 40 min experience at this place we dealt with several staff all of whom were disinterested, rude and arrogant. My husband ordered his meal without tomatoes and I knew immediately the waiter would not remember as he wasn't listening to anything we were asking for. Sure enough meal arrived with tomatoes. When we requested the correct meal as ordered the waiter questioned it rudely and defensively. The chef then glared at us and proceeded to aggressively slap a new meal (a quarter of the original size) together. Needless to say when we refused to pay the service charge this was met with mumbles under breath. Not that we expected anything else at that point. We were glad to leave and will not returning or recommending to anyone

I am a gluten/wheat intolerant person, I usually buy a “schwarma” takeaway for lunch sans the wheat-based dough and get rice in exchange for a fair price of £5. That’s rice with some lamb or chicken kebab shavings, tomato slice, pickle slice, onions, garlic sauce. Delicious! At 18:26 on 04/12/09, I purchased same, but sat at a table in the restaurant. Being unable to finish the plate of food, I asked for it to be packed for take away. I was charged a WHOPPING £13.75 !!! I had no beverages. That’s more than double?!! The man at the till, presumably the manager, said “this is the King’s Road”. (So?!) “and I’ve got to pay the rent, it’s £300,000”. (not MY problem) Did he decide to charge me the earth, because I was carrying a Jimmy Choo bag someone had given me as a gift?!
My dish was not even printed on the menu, PLUS I WAS CHARGED MORE than similar items on the menu!!! Unable to reason with him, I paid the money, BUT I WILL NEVER go there again and as an influential person in and around Chelsea, I will definitely spread the word. What a shame for Al Dar.
