Coming from an indian culture I think it makes it a whole lot easier to distinguish between and good or bad curry. I think it's got to be said that monty's is absolutely brilliant. My family and I regularly visit the restaurant and have simply fallen in love with the food. The spice is right and food is delicious. The montys special kebab are a must try! The service is brilliant. I have read some negative reviews but I must say I simply do not agree with anything negative with regards to this restaurant, it's just great!

I can only agree with the majority of your reviewers,
absolutley my favourite restaurant, and i have been
using it for over twenty years! Yes it gets busy, yes it can feel a bit cramped,
but the staff are always obliging. The menu is predictable but so reasonable.
Very fresh and tasty, something for everyone!
I cannot reccomend this place enough!
The owner is such a lovely man, he always gives you a warm welcome!
Try it!

Monty's is my absolute favorite restaurant in London. The prices are shockingly cheap given how terrific the food is. It's a pretty small restaurant and typically not too busy so it makes for a good place to have a low-key dinner. There are only two or three waiters that I've ever seen there so the service is pretty consistent and fairly attentive. A dinner there is easily under £10 a head sans drinks. My one gripe about Monty's is that they have no desserts! (Only ice cream.)

I lived in Nepal for 1 year and a half and also have married a Nepali man who cooks a lot (he's not related to anyone at Monty's!), so hopefully I'm qualified to write a review about this great restaurant! The food is a good mixture of traditional Nepali dishes (basically daal, rice and vegetable curry) and also more Indian-inspired recipes. The staff are very attentive, and when they get to know you they remember what you usually order (my order is often on the pad before I've opened my mouth, yes, I am that predictable). There is a decent choice of wines and lager (Kingfisher, Cobra, Gurkha etc). My favourites are the chicken chilli with aloo kulchha nan, with aloo chhat to start. My husband often has the bhindi bhaji and the kathmandu daal, which can be vegetarian or with lamb or chicken, and is full of garlic and ginger and absolutely lovely. Whenever I'm eating in Montys I start feeling homesick for Nepal! Especially when I see the paintings on the wall.

I went there last Friday with my girlfriend and the service wasn't great. The food was mediocre. It all started when we asked the waiter if he could change our ginger ales as they were flat. He was happy to do this, unfortunately the barman wasn't happy and said the drinks were not flat. What ever happened to the customer is always right! They didn't want to pour us other drinks and recommended we have water instead! We insisted on the riskier coke and lemonade option. Well we had our starter, paneer tikha which was bland. Nevermind let's just see what the mains are like. The table next to us got their cutlery changed but we didn't which was somewhat irritating. Let's leave that as an oversight but that's being kind. We got the mains; the butter chicken wasn't the best. The lamb chilli masala was better and perhaps rescued which was otherwise a poor experience. So 1 starter, 2 mains, 2 roti's, 1 pilau rice and two soft drinks came to £16 a head. Not quite £10 a head. They were kinder to us when we left the restaurant but suffice to say we won't be going back there again.

This is the best food of it's kind I've tasted anywhere. Fantastic quality. No wonder it's always busy.

I dined there with friends last year and had a wonderful evening. The food was tasty and plentiful, the service efficient and unobtrusive. Although the restaurant was almost full the staff were attentive and always there when we needed them. Do try it, I promise you'll have an excellent inexpensive meal.
