Portobello Gold

I went on Saturday night and had the big table between the main bar and the restaurant - there were 11 of us and we had a great night. The food was really good, i had oysters and then the organic salmon which were both great and between us we had most things on the menu and all of my friends were happy. There was a delay on two people's meals but the staff came out and offered free drinks to them as an apology which they didn't accept as the staff were so friendly.

I've eaten here before and sometimes you do have to wait a while between courses but it makes a change from all of those places which are racing you out before giving your table to the next diners.

We had a lovely night and I would highly recommend this place, i think the food is really good value and the staff are really lovely....as a local its great to have somewhere like this right on my doorstep.

Went here with my husband's business colleagues and last night and was pretty disappointed. Drinks took ages to arrive. My husband's calamari starter had to be returned as it was cold and rubbery - a newer hot one was delivered after we complained but still rubbery. Three had the special - roast beef with yorkshire puds and they seemed happy enough (except for the potatoes which all said weren't very good) but my venison was as tough as old boots. I didn't feel like I could complain again after sending back the calamari. Service was appallingly slow.

Have been here twice. The first time was pretty good but the second time was terrible. Among the starters, the hummus tasted strange and the two haddock fishcakes I had while competently cooked were miniscule. One of our number was also made to feel small when a misunderstanding led to two soft drinks being delivered when one was ordered.

Then we had a very long wait for the main courses, which although cooked well were not worth the 45 minute wait. To top it off, the gratuity was handwritten in for us on the bill.
