The Pigs Ear Dining Room

Just like the last time, about 2 years ago, another shocking disappointment. It really gets my goat when a pub considers itself a restaurant-yet serves pub food at restaurant prices. Everything about this place is overrated except perhaps the cider which I understand is the favourite of a certain young Royal. Having studied the very unimaginative menu I tried to stay on the safe side and opted for the Aberdeen Angus Steak ,when I ventured here for lunch today. I could have had a starter but they all looked more at home on a vegetarian menu. I shouldn't have been surprised when the steak arrived-it was completely overwhelmed by salad and chips. Perhaps that was a good thing-the steak was merely a smallish chunk of gristle and fat and at £16.85 it was hardly value. The wine list would be more at home in a hotel-I had a perfectly reasonable bottle of Rhone for £20, but shouldn't have paid more than about £14. All in all thoroughly disappointing. At least I was the only one there-Everyone else in Chelsea must have already found out.

Eat and enjoyed it.
The Pigs Ear is a lovely pub, which benefits from not being done up as an All Bar One, with a cosy, and a bit cramped, down stairs informal dining area and a first floor more formal dining area.
Service - We were seated promptly and friendly but after that it was a bit down hill. The waitress really did not know very much at all, when asked what wine would go best with something she went away and had to ask the bar man and when asked if we could have a dish from the bar menu she had to go and someone else. Anyhow, eventually, orders were taken and wine and bread appeared.
Food - The starters were good. My partner liked the pate very much and my oysters was very good apart from one which was only some grey residue in a broken shell and generally looked so ‘iffy’ that I could not bring myself to eat it. When this was taken up with the waiter she just looked at it and said, well, nothing. The steak was perfect medium, as ordered, with skinny chips which is my favourite and the beef stew was equally great. Poached baby pineapple was fantastic for pudding.
Then bill - a bit steep I thought and studied it closer to discover an extra £22 bottle of vine that had not been ordered. When this was pointed out the waitress she was very apologetic and removed it but still left a bit of a sour taste.
The bar - After this we went to the bar to finish of the evening. I was made the worst Irish Coffee I have ever seen, actually so bad I could not help laughing and the barman, who admitted not being the best Irish Coffee maker, just took it away with as smile. I then ordered a whiskey, Mcallan 10 yrs, which was the smallest measure I have ever seen, barely covered the bottom of the glass, which at £5 is a bit steep but at this point I just laughed, paid and drank it.
All, in all it was an enjoyable evening and I think I'll come back but the service could do with some attention and the bar staff some training.

Well what a surprise this was. My expectations were low and the steak tartare was divine. The cod as a main was possibly the 2nd best fish dish I've ever had and the Santenay wine was an excellent accompaniment. All polished off with a sticky toffee pudding. Will definitely revisit!

The Pigs Ear is very long on old Chelsea charm and is a cozy place for dinner on a damp London Winter's night. The service was friendly and enthusiastic. The catch is, though, the food is horrible. Grilled sole came out as sushi with grotesque salted caper sauce. The veal chop was more like a veal minute steak which was over cooked on one side and raw on the other. All of the food came out cold. The quality of the food was really the worst of over priced London for mediocre food at best. Frankly, I would not have given the entrees to my dog for his dinner.

Overall a good pub with an intelligent menu. my main gripe churlish as is seems is the provinance/age of the beef steak. Though supperbly grilled with a aromatic charred exterior, the interior was dull flavouered and chewy. Howerver We were lucky enough to have the eponymous "Pig's ear", for this I am thankful. Breaded gunks of flange which smothered the tounge with what is truly a silk purse of a dish.
/In my opinon the everything in this pub is a bit overpriced maybe due to high rent or greed iam not sure but is with two hours of anyones time

Great place!!! Super food at super prices - oh, I sound like a marketing man!!! The only fault this place has got is perhaps too many tables on the ground floor - it can be a bit cramped, especially near the curtain.

Only ate here once, but it was excellent. I had poached guinea fowl with foie gras, pearl barley, peas and walnuts. Very unusual combination and very good. The atmosphere in the bar (where I ate) was very pleasant--very like a really nice pub, only with good food.
Only one nitpick: the salad was rather wilted.

This place just gets better. I am lucky enough to live walking distance away, and have been coming since it opened. Every single meal I have eaten there (which is usually once a fortnight) has been better than the last. On Friday I had the most delectable warm salad of baby octopus and crispy bacon, followed by an unusual and utterly fabulous halibut with ox cheek. The only thing that could be bettered is the bread. Go!
