C&R Cafe Restaurant

I went to the restaurant for the first time last week with the promise of the best Laksa in town, and am happy to say I was not disappointed, as although it is not the best laksa I have had it is certainly one of the best I have had in London. Yumm!
Further the restaurant boasts a wide selection of traditional Malaysian deserts as well, which is definitely a bonus.
The service was fine for what it is, a cafe restaurant.
I hope, unlike so many restaurants which are good to begin with, that C&R remain consistently good in the authentic quality of their cuisine, and the good value for money they currently offer.

following the review that the 2 chefs being father at the same time thus allowing the standard of food to fall, decided to to try C+ R once more.
No doubt about it, the standard of the food is back to NORMAL as though time had stood still.
The wat tan hor was yummy and the char koay teow second to none.
Service seems to have slightly improved (early days) but will reserve judgement
after a few more visits.
If they can be consistent, I wont be going elsewhere again

Have been inconsistant in standards the last few times I was there.
Discovered both the head chefs became fathers at nearly the same time and I think that was the reason why the standards were a down .
went back there last night and ALL IS WELL. Best char kwaoy teo in town and the prawn mee soup was a delight.
Still ROOM for improvement in the waiting staff - SMILE. you are in a service industry and the customers pay your wages

went to rasa sayang because C&R was packed and my friends did not want
to wait.
Big mistake as the food was nothing in comparison to C+R. Let me in, ALL IS FORGIVEN.
Just a small note, smile please and improve on your service

for the prices charged, there is not much to complain about. Food in general good with the signature dishes like nasi lemak, char kwaoy tiao and wat tan ho to the point of brillant. Service however can be indifferent depending on who is serving. Weekend expect to wait.

My husband and I have been going to C&R cafe for over the years.
Good value, big portions.
Nasi goreng, nasi lemak, and most of the noodle dishes we have tried are very good.
We would highly recommend C&R for reasonable priced malaysian food in London.
Paying less than £20 for a meal is well worth it living the restaurant with a belly full and getting the malaysian feel of hawkers food.

I am a Malaysian currently living in the UK and so decided to try "Malaysian" cuisine in C&R Cafe. Overall the food was disappointing. The Nasi Lemak was bad - The chicken portion given was pathetically small, the sambal (chili paste) tasteless, and the ikan bilia (anchovies) felt like rubber. A few friends ordered Char Kuey Teow and they were a disappointment as well - lacking flavor and tasted more like self-attempted rice noodles fried with soya sauce. The service was also non existent. Overall, there are many other better Malaysian restaurants in the London area.

We may well have been their first few customers when they first opened aeons ago. The food then was very nice and there were very few malaysian restaurants then. I suspect that their standards have dropped. We have seen many changes of staff, and they may well have lost their original chefs. However their fried sambal kangkong (fried chilli paste convolvulus) is still very good - and we have this on the authority of a chef from another London Malaysian restaurant who comes here just for this dish - praise indeed. Many people will say their malaysian hawkers' style dishes are as nice as the ones they have tasted in Malaysia. But I shall desist from that temptation as some of the Kuala Lumpur food is actually substandard compared to the genuine Malaysian hawkers food found in Penang ( and this must be qualified as only some hawkers centres in Penang are excellent). I may be slightly overjudgemental as lately some shopping centres in K.L. have food outlets with the name Penang Cafe ,etc., have hawkers' food that approaches that of Penang ( probably migrants from Penang to KL).

We have eaten here a number of times in the last two years, always good or at least good for a cheap meal in London. Have made a few mistakes on the menu going for more obscure dishes but if you stick to the main ones it is always nice e.g. Nasi Lemak, Singapore Laskha, Chicken Satay, Beef Rendang. A recent discovery is the Lamb Curry which doesnt look special on the menu but turned out to be similar to Thai Massaman Curry and very nice. The Roti is always good. Try not to let them sit you near the door though it is cold.
