Sorry, I should add to my review that the recommendations on the menu by the wait staff (just ask them they don't bite) were no 10, 42 and 77. I don't know the names but if you stick with those (I've had all three before-yum) you should be more than happy. As for the service, well, Asian restaurants aren't exactly known for a fawning display to customers so there shouldn't be any shocks there.

Other customers seemed to have more interesting looking dishes, but our meal was frankly very disappointing.

Not good choice for vegetarians - very few vegetarian options on the menu, and one that was tasted suspiciously fishy. All food was produced at once, rather than starters first, main course after, despite specifically requesting starter first. The stir-fried vegetables had not been stir-fried, but were exactly the same as the vegetable sauce for the noodles. The peanut sauce was not very peanutty at all!

Went here last Saturday, quick bite to eat before moving on for the evening.

Food was good, but the service....If that's what you could call it, was appalling. Greeted with no more than a grunt, and the menu thrown on the table, I honestly think the waitress said no more than two words to us all the time we were there. It felt like we were doing them a favour.

No smile, no please, no thank you.

No tip.

We were recommended this place by a friend, and our experience of the place seems to be the same as other reviewers, which is a pretty mixed bunch.

My girlfriend had a fried noodle dish. The description sounded great, the reality was a brown mass of fried noodles and whatever else that was listed in the description, but all it really tasted of was peanut/groundnut oil that had been used to fry it.

I had no. 42 on the menu-unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what it was called, but it was recommended as one of the three best things on the menu by our waitress. The description was roughly coconut curried chicken with peanuts, anchovies and egg. When it came to the table-wow, there was thai style rice with a roll of chicken on the side of the plate with the curry sauce drizzled over it along with some of the rice. There were 2 sides of some sort, 1 was a kind of spicy pickled relish, the other was, ummm I don't know, a spicy salad sort of thing. The anchovies were on the side, served up in the same style as fried whitebait but a bit drier (and a lot saltier of course), and there were also roasted peanuts (skins on) at the side, along with 2 quarters of boiled egg as well.

And I can tell you that it was the most interesting and delicious dish I have tasted in a long time. Mix all of those bits together on your spoon, or whichever way you want it, and the mix of flavours perfectly balance and enhance each other. I will be coming back for this dish alone, and also to see if there is anything else that is just as interesting on the menu.

So it appears that C and R cafe has a mix of the plain average and the absolutely outstanding, and there might be a bit of luck involved in finding the latter.

This place was truly suprising. Really authetic taste. Although its quite expensive, you really do get your monies worth. Me and my mum (who is malaysian) had the Hainanese chicken and rice and a side order of kangkong belachan.... amazing, worth the money....

oh they also do teh tarik... new fav place to eat.

We went to this restaurant by a recomendation from a friend and looking at the good review it had.It was Saturday so the restaurant was full and we had to wait for 10-15 minutes to have our table.Fine, can't complain about that.

We sat and I ordered Wat Dan Ho (rice noodles with egg sauce with crunchy greens and seafood)which was very delicious. We ordered chicken satay which was dry and the peanuts sauce was really bland! My daughter ordered Kampung fried rice which was really oily, salty and tasteless. My friend ordered fried kueh-teow(fried flat noodles) and kangkong belacan. The noodles and kangkong was very salty and lack of any real flavour! For dessert,my friend ordered sagoo with coconut milk and palm sugar which was delicious.

The service was fast but do not expect a smilling face,a thank you, infact one of the waitress literally threw the plate of our bills on the table without even looking at us!!They're so rude! The food is nothing to shout about the service was bad,I don't think I will come back!

My partner and I love this place and go whenever we can. I lived in Singapore for many years and we've been to Malaysia several times so can vote for the authenticity.

Our favourites are the Kampung Nasi Goreng, Singapore Laksa and Roti Canai, all delicious. The Prawn mee is also good. We've never tried a side dish or vegetable dish because they don't seem to be good value.

Atmosphere is laidback and friendly, canteen style. Service is good.

Our favourite Malaysian in London!

I'm a flight attendant, flying to London quite often. One of my Malaysian friend was working as a chef in U.K last time, he always bring me to good restaurant. I only went once to most of the restaurant, because i want to try other restaurants. But C & R has draw my attention, the foods there are pretty good compare to other Asia restaurants in London.

Fried rice is the BEST selection! Big portion & tasty! Their services, somehow still better than few busy Hong Kong restaurants nearby that area. I MUST have my meal there at least once every time i fly to London. Keep up the good work!
