A friend had booked out an area downstairs in the club for a birthday on a Saturday night (fun place to book for parties). My boyfriend and I popped in early to try out the restaurant beforehand.

Service started out a bit sketchy, as they were just setting up for service, and we had to walk over to request our order be taken. But they did apologise and were charming otherwise.

To be fair I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Simple straight forward menu, food was great and the prices very reasonable. I had a risotto which was (very) garlic-y but hearty and hit the spot. Boyfriend had a burger on ciabatta, hearty also. The booth style sofa set up with damask swirl wallpaper and dim lighting makes it a cosy, funky and laid back environment.

Would recommend it (already have) to friends.

Staff are lovely here, the food was perfectly fine and good value; kinda odd layout - it's definitely more a bar that does food rather than a restaurant. The bar downstairs had a good feel about it and it's clearly a popular neighbourhood hang-out

Spent a great night out at this fine establishment. We went along mid-week so it wasn't too busy, the food on offer was restricted to a set menu on this occasion, nevertheless the food was tasty, the service fast, efficient and very accommodating. The Bar downstairs was a visual treat with a wide range of drinks on offer. One important word of warning though to any nut allergy sufferers, do enquire with the staff as our lamb dish contained liberal amounts of Walnuts throughout, suffice to say this could have had consequences, fortunately it didn't in this case, but i feel it's important that the menus need to indicate such nut-containing dishes in future. All-in-all, I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

I would just like to say a big THANK YOU to all the staff at Ruby & Sequoia. I had my birthday in the bar downstairs on friday night and although the end of the evening is still a bit hazy (too many mojitos) I had the most fantastic time. Usually I end up spending an arm and a leg on a night out in Notting HELL hating the service and wondering why I'm giving my bank manager a coronary. Anyway I digress. This place rocks. Will definitely be back.

I've been to this place over a dozen times and each time I come away it's been with pleasant thoughts. Service has admittedly been slow on the odd 'manic' eve but generally very attentive staff and good food by far outweighs the odd occasion it's not been 100%. I'd definitely recommend the place to friends and I've had some great parties down below (in Sequoia) and into the early hours too, bonus!!

Went here after an early showing at the Electric with my husband. I chose the restaurant based on reviews, so no previous experience. It was a lively place, full of uber-trendy young things, and very stylish, though still quite friendly (we are not uber-trendy, but I didn't feel uncomfortable). However, we were the only couple in the whole place (bar and restuarant), everybody else was in groups, unsually of at least four or five, more there for the atmosphere than the food or drink I reckon. Cocktails were mediocre, service was fairly friendly but truly terible (in terms of speed). Food mixed. We had a fab mushroom crepe starter, really yummy. Then followed by tuna nicoise salad - very tasty rare tuna, offset by disappointingly dismal and cheap olives. My husband chose chicken kiev which was nice but it came alone in a plate of garlic butter - there was no helpful mention when we ordered that it came alone and they didn't ask if we wanted veggies and/or fries. Possibly a fun night out for locals if the surroundings and atmosphere matter more than drinks, but don't go for food and if you do, expect a very long wait and apologetic staff.

Place looks great but what about the service... Really embarrassingly bad. I had taken some work colleagues out for dinner on a friday night and nearly walked out after 2 hours. Place looks great but the staff have no training and just avoid the guests like they have the plague because they just do not know what they are doing. 25 mins for a drink? Starters arriving before the cocktails we ordered? One main course NEVER delivered and a manager that could not care less.

love rubys! i go there at least once a week; service on the down times is personal, sweet and makes you feel at home. when busy it's a little manic, but they always do their best to find you a seat. best burger in town, aside from soho house. also make a mean pina colada, if you can believe that.

As someone living in the area, I used to be a big fan of Ruby as somewhere to go for some decent, reasonably priced food and a relaxed place to sink a bottle of wine (or three) with friends. I even went there for my birthday a few months back. As you can probably tell, this story isn't going to have a happy ending...

I recently went there for dinner with a few friends on a Thursday night. Service during the meal was adequate but pretty slow. As the bar filled up it got slower and slower until it was non-existent. At one point we had to wait over forty minutes for some drinks. I went up to the bar to find out where the drinks we had ordered had got to, in order to be informed rudely that we probably weren't going to get them anyway as they had run out of ingredients. When I voiced my dissatisfaction I was told that it was a busy night and I was just going to have to wait til the staff got round to me (surely a busy night is the staff's problem, not mine?). When I asked to speak to the manager I was told that he was "too busy to speak to me".

The whole experience was just bizarre. The staff were rude and uncompromising. We asked if we had to pay for the round of drinks (three cocktails) after the 50min wait and were told that all they could do was apologise, there would be no offerings of goodwill.

I'm just annoyed really I probably was spending £150+ there a month, but now can't be bothered to go near the palce if that is how the staff treat the customers. The waitresses were rude and patronising, and the manager needs to review his customer service policy if he or she can't even be bothered to talk to dissatisfied customers.

Rant over!
