what the critics say

Guardian

Matthew Fort

Saturday, May 18, 2002 - Titfer remarked that he couldn't quite see the point of cutting up sweetbreads into squares before caramelising them, even if you were going to serve them with wilted rocket and Jerusalem artichokes, as you lost one of the points of sweetbreads, which is their taut softness. And he felt that sweetness in the Claridge's version of the poached-grilled pigeon was generally overplayed, although the pigeon breasts themselves had him rhapsodising at length.

We went to Claridges on Sat for lunch, and I must say I was very disappointed, the food was incredibly unimaginative, and not very good. The chicken we ordered was not cooked through and we had to send this back, they also had no fish on the menu for a main course! I have never been to a restaurant before where the waiting staff outnumber the guests by 2:1 also. The food was not up to the standard I was expecting, and I have honestly had better food in my local pub.

We were really looking forward to a special lunch, and it has to be said I will not be recommending this experience to friends or family particularly at the price I paid.

Dinner could not be more disappointing. The lobster ravioli was 'OK' though everything else was predictable and now lacks innovation. The restaurant is a very nice venue staff are very helpful though the let down is the food which I suppose running an empire which is now in decline Mr Ramsay needs to focus again on what he is good at and that is running a kitchen and not leaving it in the hands of others. The menu needs to be revamped and updated for this new decade. The bill was not expensive (compared to the Waterside Inn in Bray where we dined the week before where the food was immaculate French cooked to a excellent standard though you pay the price) though Gordon needs to pull his socks up and stop big noting himself and using the 'F' word and focus on his great talent as a chef and innovator.

The food was fine, good even, especially the lobster ravioli. But the service was so poor that I won't be going back. From the waiter who constantly interrupted our conversation mid-sentence, to the person who poured still water into my glass of sparkling not once, not twice, but three times, they really need to work on this one.

had the £30 lunch menu with a half bottle of Fleurie yesterday for our 4 year anniversary. the food was great with all the little extras you expect from a top end restaurant, but what truly sets Claridges apart from other restaurants is the attention and service you receive from the staff who are there when you want them to be with a warm and friendly approach. I will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone.

We had the 5 course lunch taster menu and it was truly fantastic.

There were 8 people in our party and collectively we managed to cover most of the menu selections.

Every course was beautifully prepared and presented. The tastes were amazing.

The staff were attentive without being too formal or over fussy.

This was the fourth occasion that we have dined at Gordon Ramsay Claridges and we have never failed to have been impressed.

Yes the food is good, very good especially suits the season- real nice. I don't usually eat haddock, but it was delicious. I had a very nice lunch today, but I am not sure what it is, but something, just doesn't feel right- maybe unlike the other places to eat of a similar statue, this just does not go all the way with the finishing touches that make us feel that we have been treated to something, well, special. I still can't pinpoint it and maybe it is my imagination.

There is a great crowd in here- really nice mix of customers that i liked- all looking for the food experience and having some fun. Staff are good as well i really felt welcome.

A really good nice place for a lunch and you would be hard pushed to beat it. And despite that feeling, for the price, there is just no comparison. Highly recommended.

Food here is unbelievable, delectable, awesome!! Service was fantastic couldn't fault it at all!

Went for the set lunch menu, I had the rabbit and crayfish ravioli and it was out of this world!! I have never tried rabbit before but it was lovely and the sauce was amazing! My partner had the beetroot and crab and it was gorgeous too, loads of crab not stingy on portions, just the right amount,

Main course we both went for the sea bream which was unfaultable and the best fish dish i have ever eaten, the fish had a lovely crispy skin and every mouthful was like heaven, compliments to the chef!!

For desert I had the chocolate parfait with these brownie biscuits, pastry chef knows his stuff!! My other half had the creme brule which instead of being in a pot was served on a biscuit base, great idea and was thoughroughly enjoyed.

My partner is a michelin trained chef and I am the daughter of a top london chef (not now in the trade) so even though I don't have the vocabulary I know good food and this is way up there.

Thank you so much for a beautiful meal, we'll remember it forever.

My wife & I went there for lunch a couple of Saturdays ago, and had a terrific time. The online booking available on various food sites showed no spaces free a couple of days prior, but a 'phone call the day before got us in ok.

The £30 lunch menu gave us enough choices. We had crab & beetroot salad and parsnip soup with bits in, followed by pork two ways and salmon in Parma Ham, and nice puddings. Amuse-gueules of celeric soup with apple & horeradish, and a goat's cheese & beetroot salad made the meal almost four courses. Everything was delicious, and the staff looked after us perfectly. Especially (but not overly) friendly was the jolly girl with the ipad wine list. Not totally sure about the ipad though!

£10.50 was a bit steep for a G&T, but the wines by the glass were not too toppy, and our all-in bill of £106 was just fine for the place, what we got, and how it was delivered. We will return.

im very sorry but i strongly disagree with that review. me and my girlfriend have been in there just today and could not fault one single thing in the way of food or service, everything woz completely spot on and as i left i didnt feel my bill woz enough for what i experienced. some people are just to hard to please and im sorry but there is no need for it with this restaurant. One more thing!!!!! it was gordon ramsay that gave me the inspiration to be a chef so i had high hopes for my visit and i was not let down, ive been doin in 9 years now and ave neva looked back. if i ever have a chance to work in one of his restaurants i would do it with the snap of a finger. he is my hero, and he has done really well for himself.
