Joy Fook

I went to Joy Fooks in brentwood for the first time. The place was nice good service, nice food. BUT VERY VERY SMALL portions, we had two small bowls of rice between 8 of us. The cost of the meal and drinks per person was approx 50 pound per head and this was not drinking loads. 3 bottles of house wine, and 6 beers. Normally when we have gone out to restaurants and had a set meal we all come out leaving loads of food still to be eaten and very very full up. This time we polished off all the food on the table and was still hungry at the end of the evening.
NOT GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY.
The people we went with had been before and said it varies from time to time, never really had large portions, it was a busy night, but then they know this as it is all bookings and this should be taking in to consideration.

Totally too comfortable being a stand alone chinese restaurant in area with very few. Portions and taste not consistent over various visits.Takeaway is like a lottery you have no idea if the food is okay or edible. The staff seem to be programmed to be brusque and the prices not justifiable for a restaurant that would not survive in london or locally with a bit of competion.Think carefully before going has rapidly gone down hill.

I was at the restaurant last night for a friends hen party. There were 20 of us seated near the dance floor. I have been to the restaurant on numerous occasions and had recommended the Joy Fook to a friend for her hen night. I must say I was extremely disappointed with the staff, both male and female. Their mannerism were awful. We were greeted in silence as we entered the restaurant and at the tables, plates, glasses and chopsticks were pushed between us, not even a polite excuse me. I actually complained to the manager at one point as a members of staff started to clear away the table cloth and our wine glasses before the dancing even began! and before we had even finished drinking! The manager did talk to them but their attitude did not change. I was not the only party who was experiencing this. Another party of women from Scotland who I had met were also talking about staff attitude. The music was rubbish. The DJ played all the good up to date music whilst we were at the tables eating then it went downhill. You would think that a restaurant which had a majoirty of women dancing that they would play something like 'new york, new york' at the end but instead he put a slow record on which killed the evening for everyone! This restaurant should tlook seriously into arranging courses for these restaurat staff to help them with customer care skills, if they are not happy in their work then don't do it! It costs nothing to smile and be polite!

I was first introduced to this restaurant about 11 years ago and loved it. Many special occasions have been celebrated there for family and friends. The Sunday buffet is excellent value and enough choice for even a very fussy eater. The layout is easy, the food is good and presented well. The staff are pleasant and everything is clean. My only complaint ... is that I don't get chance to visit as often as I would like!

This is a good night out with one flaw. The price.
The service is OK, the food is OK at best but it is not value for money. This may be better for the lunchtime buffet, but evenings out at Joy Fook are fooking joyless on the wallet.
First visit was with my better half in 2006 on a Friday evening which came in at £75, which I felt was a bit steep given that one of us was on coca cola all night. The second visit was an evening group visit of 14 people, 9 drinking alcohol and 5 fruit juicers which tipped the scales at just over 520 quid!
Once the disco starts, don't bother trying to talk to each other, but agree it's a nice touch if you like that sort of thing.
Overall, an OK place but definately not value for money

The Sunday buffet lunch, costing 12:50 is incredible value. There are now at least 70 different dishes to chose from. My favorites from the regulars are chili prawns, duck with hoi sin sauce, beef Cantonese style, Peking duck and banana fritters. With 15 vegetarian dishes and about a dozen sweets even the fussiest eaterswon't go hungry. The buffet is available in the evenings from Sunday thru Thursday and is even more incredible value at 9.90.

Joy Fook's give you great value for money and a party atmosphere whilst enjoying good food. Restaurant offers good parking and clean facilities. Staff are very helpful and friendly and the disco is great fun. Brilliant venue for Hen/Stag nights, birthdays and general celebrations. Highly recommend and will definately keep going back.
