Greenwich Park Bar and Grill

Surly staff, tired and grubby furnishings, so-so food. This place is in a great location, but like so many Greenwich venues I suspect it suffers from having a constant stream of one-off visits from tourists and so just doesn't have to try very hard.

Greenwich Park Bar & Grill, 2/3/2007
I booked a table for the Friday evening as I was expecting the place to be heaving, like the rest of Greenwich usually is on a weekend, but between 7:30 - 9pm we and another couple were the only diners in there! It was pouring with rain outside which probably doesn't help business but still...
The waitress was attentive, efficient, polite, friendly and spoke perfect English. The restaurant decor is beautiful. We were served complimentary olives and bread which were lovely.
Unfortunately there was no atmosphere, the food was overpriced and of very average quality.
I had the spinach & ricotta ravioli (£11.50) which was overcooked, smothered with onions and cherry tomatoes, pretty tasteless and served with neither freshly ground pepper nor a sauce. I asked for parmesan to give it some interest.
Everything was beautifully presented but that cannot compensate for the average food. (And they need to get rid of the cafeteria-style salt & pepper shakers from the tables!)
If I were to hear they'd sorted out the food I'd go back as the place is lovely, but until that time I'll dine out elsewhere.

since holiday I have been in that restaurant about once a week.In my opinion food is the best thing what they have there!!!staff are NOT professional!,place sometimes is dirty,I had to wait to someone to clean my table almost 20min.so....only one reason that I'll go there is food.

Good beer, bad food. The bread was stale on my friend's sandwich and totally unaccompanied. Not really in line with the prices. I wouldnt really pay to try the restaurant upstairs. There are better restaurants in the area. I would name them if I thought it would get printed!
Hoegarden is great though they overcharge. Nice looking place, good atmosphere if they could just get the food right.

This place is very nice. We had a party of 8.5 and we had a grand evening. Many many bottles of Argentinian Trapiche Pinot Noir which was quaffed (6 bottles) with delight. Lamb and Mushroom kebabs on Rosemary twig skewers were only bettered by the battered Fried Squid which was served with perfect chilli sauce. Rib-Eye was good with chunky chips. Chef may have a reluctance to cook-to-order so if you dont like juicy make a strong appeal to waiter when ordering. Sweets could have been more enticing and liquor coffees could have been better considering prices (eg£5.50/Irish). New Colombian waiter on first day did well and fellow waiter actually asked the table if we were 'happy'. Most unusual but delightful and refreshing. We will return - perhaps for brunch tomorrow! (£300 /8=£37.50 head - the works)

I am not sure what is going on with the Grennwich Park. I have been a regular customer ever since it opened last year and loved it. But since this summer, I have been disappointed on several occasions. The food is not what it used to be. The first time I thought it might have been a mistake which can happen but I have never been satisfied again. I had the steak last week, I asked for well done and it was still 'bleeding' when I got served. The food is less than average and now I can't keep on trying to find excuses just because I like the place! The fact is this restaurant has gone downhill for the past few months and the staff is not really professional. When ordering desert last week, my husband ordered the chocolate and we waited about 15min before we were told they had run out. Surely someone could have told us before handing out the menu?
I won't be going back there anytime soon... Shame, as it used to be a great place and the decor is amazing.

I went with a date the other night, and wish I had read the reviews first! As another reviewer said, zero atmosphere, staff ok, but not really on this planet. Food was less than average, standard. Fills a space, but doesn't make you think - wow. The decor was quite nice though, just shame about the overall impression and poor food quality. Plenty of other places to eat in Greenwich!
