Undoubtedly the worst, rudest service I have received from any restaurant or, in fact, any human being. Do not eat here under any circumstances – the food is no better than average and they do not deserve your money.

I have been for brunch at Automat three times and on all three occasions it's been fantastic. The restaurant is in three sections, the front, middle and back areas. Make sure to ask for a table in either the middle or back (conservatory) section. The atmosphere was buzzing and the food was great. Service could be better.

Never again. For the third time in a row I went to Automat and experienced shockingly rude and incompetent service. I am not clear what the problem is but somehow a bad attitude has been ingrained with a few of the staff members who are unapologetic no matter how many errors they make. On the last occasion, we were told that they had run out of vegetarian hamburgers long after the order was taken. They nevertheless carried on serving the remaining food to the other two diners and suggested the vegetarian eat bread, without apology or even the wit to suggest an alternative.

This place is throughly dreadful. Crab cake starter was one grab cake (overcooked and poor quality crab in cheap breadcrumbs), about 3 inches diameter, wedge of lemon and limp lettuce leaf - £11 - i sent it back. The pricing would have been offensive even if it was good.

The burgers - for £15 you get something inferior to all the GBK type places - poor quality meat, no texture, underseasoned. Chips cooked in old oil.

The service was commensurate with the food - clueless. I cannot understand how they get away with this - no excuses for food this expensive being so bad.

(one positive - the atmosphere/room is nice)

I agree with the previous review that Automat is a terrible restaurant - the food is only so-so, made only worse by the fact that it was served luke-warm. The service isn't great. Not worth your time or money. There are plenty of better restaurants in the mayfair/piccadilly/green park area.

I went to Automat for dinner on saturday night , and I must say , it was fantastic !

we had booked a few days before , and the receptionist was lovely and helpfull on the phone , and we got a warm welcome as we arrived !

we sat in the back under the conservatory , the atmosphere was electric ! WE had so much fun !

the staff were all helpfull and lovely , and the food was fantastic ! one of the best burgers in town , by far !

I must say it was a bit loud in there ( which was great for us ) but I wouldn't recomend it to people who have hearing problems !

I will be definitly going back ASAP !

Ok service, terrible food. Had to send back both starter and main, the beef tartar was practically one unprocessed piece of meat and the fish cakes were not fresh. The hamburger was chewy. For a good hamburger restaurant in London I would stick to Joe Allens. The only reasonably good thing in this restaurant is the atmosphere, clientele and bar downstairs.

Maybe mgmt read the reviews below, or maybe its the Christmas glow having read the reviews I wasn't looking forward to lunch this week....but what a pleasant surprise!

We sat in the back room, the place was full with a lovely lively atmosphere. The front desk was fine and our waiter was very friendly and helpful though we did have to wave everytime we wanted something (drinks, wine menu, main cours cleared) - so if you accept that's how it is then you'll have a great time.

The food was nicely presented, large portions and very tasty. Whilst not cheap - it was average for West End.

I would certainly go back
