I have now eaten here three times and while the food is good on each occasion they do have a problem with being understaffed. This gastro-pub is a table service only establishment but each time i have been I have had to wait a considerable amount of time before my order has been taken. The same problem occurs for when you have to wait for the bill. On one occasion we got tired of waiting and the manager actually got annoyed that we had come to the bar to ask for the bill. He gave us three different incorrect bills before giving us the right one and then blamed us for leaving our table! Good place if they could sort out the service, especially for the price that you are paying.

Had a terrible meal last night - ordered the duck, which came served with Chick peas and fetta Cheese? No sauce, Grey, tough and hacked thickly. I sent it back, because it waxs really inedible and could even have been warmed in the microwave!. The 3 guests I took has fish - 2 had Cajun Salmon - Very tasy and good, 1 had fish and chips, which was Ok. I was very disppointed with the duck! I must compliment the 2 staff on duty though - The boy from Osaka and the girl from Turkey....They were charming and dealt with the situation very well.

Ok firstly ignore the Map location. Its nowhere near there. Search for the street address on Google Maps or local.live.com instead and it'll give you the correct location (its yards from the Thames).

Secondly, this place is absolutely fantastic. Went there last night and had the 21 Day old Argentine Steak (£11) and I can confidently say its the best steak I've had for a good few years (and I eat a lot of steak!).

Good selection of beer and all reasonably priced given the location. Very friendly staff and a quiz night on mondays to boot. Good music as well.

I'll definitely be going back to this place.

We love the Ship & Whale!

My three housemates + our partners really enjoy a nice evening down at the Ship. We can't seem to tear ourselves away from the burgers.

By far and away the best pub for food in the area: if you like gourmet burgers, this place is for you!

I'm the same...never before been compelled to write a review on a pub before, but this one deserves it.

Excellent service, something often hard to come by. The manager has a lot of pride in the place.

Excellent food and great value.

Our local is no longer the Mayflower, but now the Ship and Whale!

Have been here twice now after initially visiting its sister pub the King's Arms. Great food, massive portions with more veggie options than the Kings Arms.

Would recommend the gourmet burgers, especially the spicy bean burger and the cheesecake.

Very friendly atmosphere with good sized beer garden and interior. Although the toilets are in need of the some TLC.

We visited at the end of May for a Sunday Lunch and it was absolutely brilliant. A great pub, airy and light with plenty of room. Plenty of choice on the menu and the meals were fab. All rounded off with the Neals Yard cheese board (for 2) that we shared amongst 4 of us. We weren't being stingy, it really was that big. Highly recommend this friendly local.

We dined last night and felt compelled to issue a review (Something I never do).

Warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff.

Had 2 salmon dishes (thai salmon parcel ..excellent) and the Special fish dish of the day (Moroccan salmon..1st class and I hope it becomes a regular on the menu).

Pleasantly surprised by the value for money and a thorougly enjoyable meal and couple of pint.

I will definately be going more regularly.

6 of us on Easter Monday. Last time I was in here was about 18 years ago when it most certainly wasn't gastro!

Fairly unadventurous b-b-q based menu. Slightly pricey considering all sides are extra. A bit slow in coming too.

Grilled med prawns delish - could have eaten 20! Steaks OK, nothing more and were more well done than medium. Chips really overdone, but crunchy and quite nice. Humungous cheese board which at £8 for 2 is good value - would easily feed 4.

Sea bream in foil was good size and well cooked, though pricey.

Decor is somewhat un-glam and un-trendy, and the loos could do with a spruce.

Somehow we managed to spend £48 each for which we really should have needed help onto our feet (didn't!).
