Good selection of wine, run by nice people. Too many prams in the afternoon but you can't have everything.

This bar has been my local, my stalwart provider of good wine in hours of need, last minute dinner location, birthday party venue, birthday present provider (I've taken friends there for tastings) and virtual second home for as long as it's been open.

The staff are always welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The wine is outstanding and the guys really know their stuff and can help you choose something to either take back to your table or back to your sofa at home. What I really like about eating and drinking there is the flexibility of being able to wander into the shop next door before dinner arrives and choose exactly what you fancy, with no squinting at a wine list and no doubt at all that whatever you choose has already been carefully chosen to be there already.

If I didn't love it I wouldn't keep going back. Simple and brilliant.

This fab place continues to impress even after the referb and expansion into the place nextdoor. We took along our 2 year old for lunchtime eats/drinks and had a great time. Lovely bar food and pies with salad. The wine choice is great- not the usual stuff for people buying red Bordeaux @ £50+ a bottle but strong on Whites (we generally have white) especially south of France, Burgundy, Alsace and other regions with other stuff from Greece, Sardina, Corica + other Italian regions. Totally fab place. One of the waitresses looked slightly awry at the mess our daughter was making, but I probably looked at couples with kids that way when I was 25 too..

Seems this place hasn't had a look for a while.

My brother and I went in yesterday with some friends for a beginner's wine-tasting course. A couple of months ago they acquired the unit next door and completely opened the whole place up. They've got a deli counter in the shop, from which they serve lovely bread, cheese, cured meats and delightful little pies etc to the bar they've opened up next door.

The tastings happen in the back of shop. Ours was hosted by one of the co-owners, a delightful woman who was very knowledgeable yet completely unpretentious, who informed us they do all sorts of tastings for more advanced patrons and, importantly, that we could get 10% off anything we wanted after the course.

On Tuesdays you can pick a bottle from the shop and drink it in the bar for shelf price and if you don't fancy the food they have on offer you can get your mates to pick up a curry en route for a £3 (cutlery and crockery?) surcharge. Awesome!

Although the bar is actually not obvious at all from the shop - we went in to buy wine quite a few times before we realised it was there! - it is a lovely little hidden gem.

It is small, so probably best to book although we were lucky on the night we went. The food is quite simple - platters of cheese, pork pies, smoked meats or fish - and it is all cold but we were intrigued to see that they offer the chance to do 'chippage'. You can bring in your own hot food (really good chippie across the road) for a £3 a head cover charge!

The main point is the wine which is really fantastic and the service is very helpful and informed. You choose a bottle in the shop and bring it in to the back to drink.

We had a lovely evening - fab cheese and fish plate with lovely olives and seriously good bread and a fantastic and really good value for money Spanish red (forget the name), followed by chocolate brownies and the most amazing sweet red wine.

We both thought it was a lovely place - good for dates and conversation as the music is not too loud and the candles make it quite romantic. Will definitely be back - chippage next time!
