My husband and I haven't lived in Kingston long and we had driven past the place a few times, so we finally decided to try it. The food was amazing and the service was incredibly friendly. What a shame that more people don't stop and try the place. We were made to feel very special. We have decided to take it on as our local, and any family or friends who come visit/ pop over will be taken there! The wine was great too- good food, company and wine makes for a very fun evening!

If you want authentic and unpretentious italian food, this is the place to go. I dropped in by chance a few months ago and have been going back regularly ever since. The dishes on the menu vary between good and downright excellent. The list of italian wines is well worth exploring and reasonably priced. The service is unfailingly friendly. This is the best restaurant in Kingston and desrves to be busier than it is - it's location does it no justice.

Following my last review, went back here to see if my good experiene was a one-off.
The second time was evey bit is good! Food excellent; service personal (yes, it is light on staff, but they remain interested in their customers). Finished off with free liqueurs and mothers home-made cake!
Again, I heartily recommend this place.

We went to this place last month and honestly we left really disappointed. The place was too posh for the kind of food they served and the service was abysmal. I could not tell whether they were short of staff, or whether it is a new trend which consists of a single person doing everything, from washing the glasses to cooking.
I really doubt whether I will ever be hungry enough to go back to this place.

Its all too easy to drive by this restaurant - and a big mistake!
Turned up with a friend on Saturday evening, looking for a quick pizza or bowl of pasta -Ended up having a memorable 3 -course meal!
Starter of calamaris good (always a great tester), main course - seafood spaghetti was a revalation! Brimming with fresh, shell-on seafood, topped with a crevette - and no mean portions! The chef came out to see us and positively oozed enthusiasm for fresh food and his job.
I don't normally have desserts, but couldn't resist Zabaglione. All in all, this is a restaurant you must visit if you find yourself in Kingston.

My family have lived in Kingston/Richmond for more than twenty years. Having grown tired of the restaurant chains trying to create the atmosphere of a small family-run business we were refreshed by the authenticity and honesty of La Locanda. The food was delicious (Italian Italian), the service was perfect and the atmosphere was relaxed and casual. If you're after fresh seafood dishes, traditional pasta and meat dishes and nice wine then La Locanda is ideal. The restuarant's only fault is the lighting which is rather bright but can't touch the evening's overal pleasantness. It might be a shame that La Locanda isn't within Kingston's slightly more central riverside cluster of bars and restaurants. However this does mean the usual pretentious kingston rabble slip through the net, and you're still within a 5 minute walk from anywhere you want to move on to. Its affordable and if you want to avoid the generic Italian pap its worth losing the riverside view. We'll definitely be back.
