This place has gone down hill unfortunately after a change in management. This used to be my favourite pub in London and was a great place to go with a nice friendly atmosphere, and hence we have been going here for years. Not sure that we will be frequently there much (if at all) again after the apparent lack of consideration for the customer recently. A real shame but this explains how quiet the place was when we were there and the next closest pub being unusually busy in contrast.

Why can't this place ever get it right. Afetr months of boycotting the place because it had been so dire we decided to give it a try again. I wished to make a reservation for 5 people so went to the place personally. It was a warm balmy evening so I was keen for a table upstairs by the window. I was told they had a party of 20 coming in at the hour I stipulated so I asked for half an hour later. I was then told that they already had 7 parties coming all of whom had asked for window tables. This is fair enough but this news was delivered in a totally 'could not care less' way with a 'heaven knows why everyone wants a window table'. I pointed out it was a very hot day and would be cooler by a window also our guests would like to look at the river. This was met with a totally blank look and a 'all tables can see the river'. This is nonsense unless one is a giraffe!! What is wrong with the people at this place. Why do they care nothing about service. Another 2 years for me before I try it again

What a difference a chef makes!
Having eaten at the Gallows Restaurant many times, my wife and I had noticed a decline in the standard of food being served over the last few months. Having heard a new chef had arrived at the Gallows Restaurant, we ventured back out to experience what turned out to be the most suptuous meal we had had in a very long time. Fish seems to be in abundance on the new chefs menu and we both enjoyed mouthwatering delights cooked, in my humble opinion, to the highest standard. Watch out Mr Ramsay, the new chef at the Captain Kidd is going to be someone you need to watch.

I can't comment on the food downstairs, I have been using the restaurant upstairs to entertain foreign business clients for 10 years. Excellent food, excellent service, good value, very reliable.
