Went to this restaurant for lunch today and was very disappointed. we were the only people in the restaurant, literally. This should have been enough of a sign, however after reading several good reviews we decided to carry on. The food was alright but nothing special, and ridiculously overpriced with tiny portions. I am never one to complain about portion sizes, as i often find restaurant dishes that at first appear small are deceptively rich and filling and by the time you have finished you don't need or want anymore. However in the this case i was neither satisfied nor inclined to order any more over priced dishes because what i had eaten so far had been so mediocre. The service was good if a little over attentive as we where their only customers, however I am rather shocked that this place has got such good reviews on time out etc. Definitely wouldn't recommend it or go back.

I went to Moti Mahal for the first last week and had such a lovely time! I went there for my birthday with 4 friends and honestly, I had the best Indian food ever. I had Murghi Nazakat, a trio of chicken tikka in different colours (mint and basil, poppy seed and kashmiri chillies, cracked pepper and dill!), saffron rice and a dish (I cant remember the name) which was basically chickpeas, creamy yoghurt and pommergranate. Delicious. Lovely staff! Will definitely go back there soon!!

Like other people on this site this is the first time I have been incensed enough to write a review. My sister in law booked the restaurant as a pre-dinner meal for one of the shows in Drury Lane. For 4 of us the total cost was over £250. This was for 4 'main' courses, 1 pitiful bowl of rice, some bread and a few drinks. To say we have been ripped off is an understatement. For example, the 3 types of chicken tikka for £17 consists of 6 pieces of bite size chicken on a couple of skewers.

Service was attentive but the pretentious nature of the food coupled with the tiny portions and outrageous cost means we not only would never return to this place but would urge other people to only consider eating there if they are both extremely wealthy and in need of losing a few pounds.

Not only the most expensive Indian meal we have ever had but also among the worst.

We went to the restaurant with great expectations as our friends said they had very interesting experience there. We were warned that it was pricy but we would be happy to pay for really excellent food. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. The service was attentive, in fact over attentive. We felt like victims of hard sale as we were pushed to order more than we were inclined to. The notion that the restaurant doesn't distinguish between starters and main courses was just a gimmick and a way to make you order more dishes and more expensive ones. The food arrived quickly but I found the first dishes (supposedly not starters) were not hot enough temperature wise. The lamb shank was very tender but in a sauce without any flavour whatsoever. This could apply to most dishes which were over spiced and yet without flavour. We could not help feeling that we would have enjoyed better meal in our local Indian restaurant/takeaway at a fraction of the price. We will never go there again and will warn our friends about it.

An American In London

An American In London

Friday, June 05, 2009 - Our server recommended the sorpotel, which is a boar and okra stew, and while I loved the poached egg with masala seasoning), half the wild boar pieces were tender and sweet, and the other half were a bit dry and stringy…Overall, Moti Mahal as a mixed bag. The decor, vibe and service were pluses, and the food had its promising moments, so maybe for £20 a person and an expectation for curry takeaway classics, I’d return. But with wine and a couple of extras like rice and dal makhani (which was deliciously rich and creamy), our tab for two was £100, making our dinner a pretty mediocre value.
