I come from a heritage of family with love and know food. I personally think the food was just average , the only reason the restaurant is popular is due to the name however the real Moti Mahal in Delhi is way to must better and this is one no where close. There are better restaurant than this in London and should be preferred over MM.

Food was very moderate and taste no specific aromas, the garnishing was poor rather was not there. Not coming back again !!

This is the worst indian overpriced food I have been. We have to make our own salads!!!!!!...because they believed it was innovative. The curry was not good. I was shocked when the bill came as I could not imagine that for so little food they would charge so much. I do not recommend it mainly because it is over priced for nothing extra.

Whilst Moti Mahal is undoubtedly expensive, I think the food is of a very high standard. It is absolutely perfect for business entertaining or as a treat on a special occasion. I think the reason that some of the reviewers have been disappointed by the restaurant is because they expect it to be like the bog-standard Indian takeaway that is found on every high street in the country. In such cases, I can easily see how one can be put off by the steep prices.

However, as an Indian who has lived in the UK for a number of years, I can vouch for the food being authentic. For example, the vindaloo served here is a Goan pork dish and not simply a hot curry! Similarly, dhansak is a speciality Parsi dish that you would be hard pressed to find in most restaurants in India and not a mild curry - it can actually be quite hot.

I've been here three times and each time the food has been sensational. They even manage to make okra edible. The service is perfectly good, and it's a pleasant enough room, particularly if you sit by the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. My only gripe is that it is expensive, and certain dishes are bizarrely overpriced: lamb cutlets at £25, for instance. I go back because it's good, but not as often as I otherwise might.

Went to this restaurant for lunch today and was very disappointed. we were the only people in the restaurant, literally. This should have been enough of a sign, however after reading several good reviews we decided to carry on. The food was alright but nothing special, and ridiculously overpriced with tiny portions. I am never one to complain about portion sizes, as i often find restaurant dishes that at first appear small are deceptively rich and filling and by the time you have finished you don't need or want anymore. However in the this case i was neither satisfied nor inclined to order any more over priced dishes because what i had eaten so far had been so mediocre. The service was good if a little over attentive as we where their only customers, however I am rather shocked that this place has got such good reviews on time out etc. Definitely wouldn't recommend it or go back.

I went to Moti Mahal for the first last week and had such a lovely time! I went there for my birthday with 4 friends and honestly, I had the best Indian food ever. I had Murghi Nazakat, a trio of chicken tikka in different colours (mint and basil, poppy seed and kashmiri chillies, cracked pepper and dill!), saffron rice and a dish (I cant remember the name) which was basically chickpeas, creamy yoghurt and pommergranate. Delicious. Lovely staff! Will definitely go back there soon!!

An American In London

An American In London

Friday, June 05, 2009 - Our server recommended the sorpotel, which is a boar and okra stew, and while I loved the poached egg with masala seasoning), half the wild boar pieces were tender and sweet, and the other half were a bit dry and stringy…Overall, Moti Mahal as a mixed bag. The decor, vibe and service were pluses, and the food had its promising moments, so maybe for £20 a person and an expectation for curry takeaway classics, I’d return. But with wine and a couple of extras like rice and dal makhani (which was deliciously rich and creamy), our tab for two was £100, making our dinner a pretty mediocre value.
