I have recently been to this little restaurant as i noticed it a couple of weeks ago and the menu reminded me of a gorgeous cafe i went to in New York City so thought it would be nice to treat my parents to an early anniversary dinner.

The decor is old fashioned but i thought it had character just like portabello market. The four of us found the staff friendly and approachable full of humor.

I ordered the Stuffed breaded Mushrooms as a starter and havent found myself wanting to lick my plate in a restaurant in a long time. As for mains i had the sea bass but the look of my dads lamb chops looked just as good.... i must admit tho the side orders of chips and red cabbage were delicious! yum!

the highlight of the night for my mum was the lemon cake, she was told it was a homemade favourite of the chef himself!

i left with a full belly and a massive grin as i was proud that i took my parents to a local with little expectations and now its like we found gold dust!

If your looking for good food and a relaxing atmosphoere i would think anyone will enjoy this place esp as its so affordable! 10/10

Chateaubriand is a great little restaurant with excellent food and a good wine list. It is good value for money and the service is fast. The crowd is older and there are obviously a few regulars because it was quite busy . We took my husbands parents and his father who is a self confessed non -foodie really thought the duck was excellent and commented that the fries were the best he had eaten in a long time. We also ordered three steaks and the comment would be melt in the mouth delicious!

We didn't order starters or desserts and the main portions were more than sufficient.

This is the second time we have eaten there in the last 6 months and we would definitely go back.

My whole experience.........well firstly I was not too excited about going to this restaurant due to the only two reviews on the site were pretty poor, plus the scores were very low..........Anyway a chance to go out with my parents and grandpa makes a nice change.

I have to say that the restaurant was very good indeed. The portions were fair, the food was of excellent quality and the prices for 4 people including drinks and desserts came to £80 before service! 3 of the four of us had a starter but this is excellent value for London. The steak my grandpa had looked excellent and was a very good size. My tuna steak au poivre was very well cooked too. The apple pie dessert was rather average though.

The waitresses made one or two mistakes and brought the wrong thing but they were very polite and friendly and we felt that we could easily ask them to rectify the siuation. Service was very friendly.

The only thing that I would say about this restaurant is that it's very clean inside, but slightly old fashioned. I doubt they get much clientele below 50 years old. Not a place for a kicking night out, but for fine food with family and friends, and at very good value prices I give it my strongest recommendation.

Very disappointed, especially with the level of service. My boyfriend and I - we're the kind of people who are very much into food, but we both value the whole experience at the restaurant rather than just focusing on food. So having read much great reviews about this place, our expectations may have been a little high. Also, we were having an early Valentine's celebration that day because we couldn't meet on the day, so yes, our expectations may have been inflated... but even then... read on and see what you think.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a raised eyebrow and an unwelcome feeling, as if to say 'what are you doing here'. When I announced that we had a reservation for 9.30pm, we were shown by the direction of their chin where to sit - next to the bar. As we did, we noticed that most diners had finished, or were finishing off their meals, and getting ready to leave. May be 9.30pm is their post-peak time, and thus the hesitant welcome...

When we placed our food order, we forgot to order our drinks - then spent about 5min eyeing the waitresses to get their attention. Hving failed, despite there being three waitresses and only four sets of customers including ours, we waited anyway, as we weren't thirsty, and interested to see how long they'll take to notice. Well, they didn't notice, not until we asked when they delivered our main course.

During our main course, it became quite noisy where we were sitting - having been placed next to the bar where one staff was polishing cutlery as if it is a coal mining yard, and the manager talking loudly from the bar to the rest of the staff on the restaurant floor. Having finished our mains, and still struggling to hear the music and each other, we asked to move to the corner of now an empty restaurant - having explained that it was a little noisy to be next the bar. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT! The waitress mockingly laughed out loud! Then took 2steps to her managers (still in the bar) and said in a tone of disbelief 'They want to move for desserts'...

Throughout our stay, we were made to feel unwelcome - and I was ready to leave after that, but my boyfriend insisted that we should at least try the homemade apple tart before leaving. I wasn't sure why, as the food had been mediocre to that point with the vegetables over-cooked (mushy brocolli is not my thing) and the lamb stew had more beef than lamb (if any).

Thankfully, the apple tarts were quite nice and made us feel a little bit better - but we know we won't be going back there - not ever.

Excellent food and service however I would have to admit that I strongly disagree with the quoted '£20 average price'. I went there for a romantic night and was very satisfied with the level of service and quality of food. The main course with monkfish and tomato sauce and the snails starter were delicious! However, have to admit that the average price per person was more like £50 with a bottle of wine. All in all I would recommend this restaurant for a special night out.
