I've just read that The Hill is closing down, which is a real shame because Muswell Hill definitely needs restaurants that aren't chains. What'smore the owners did a really good job of converting the rather pikey looking Green Man pub into something that at least from the outside looks upmarket and much more fitting for the area. Sadly what let this place down was the really mediocre food and uninteresting menu. If only the owners had taken a tip from some of the great Gastro pubs in North London like St Johns, The House and The Lansdowne I really think they would have done well. Oh well I guess we'll get another kebab shop to take its place!!

Danger! Keep out!

Please take heed of this warning - do not attempt to waste your time or money by visiting this over hyped venue.

The staff were apalling. We were ignored for 10 minutes before being asked if we would like a drink in the bar.

The waiter's attitude was incredible - brash, arrogant, answering back, arguing, it was unbelievable and he had the front to inform us that he was in charge for the night so there was nobody more senior to complain to. In fact, 48 hours later, the management still have not had the courtesy to return my phone call!

The soup tasted like elastoplast, the vegetables were so al dente I doubt they were cooked for more than a moment, and the arrogant waiter (be warned) informed us that chef cooks his vegetables this way so there was little point carrying on our protests.

He also insisted that we must pay for what we had eaten even if we hated it!

Good grief, and good luck to all who sail in her........

We went to The Hill in it's opening week and it was very impressive, lovely open space and beautiful food, so when my birthday came round recently we decided to avoid the hassle of getting a taxi home from the west end and stay local, why not with such a fine restaurant on a door step? Not quite sure what has happened in that time but it certainly hasn't kept to the initial high standards. Our starters were over cooked and tastless (squid and salt cod fritters) and when the fillet of beef came out as a main it resembled a mini xmas pudding it was so black, it was also very tough. To add insult to injury it was served with the same leaves that our starters were served with which is unaccetable when you are paying £8 for a starter and £14 for a main. We didn't for for dessert. There are a couple of service issues but I don't want to be too harsh as the staff were very friendly.
